Quick Disconnect For Air

We recently purchased a 2002 Horizon and the former owner pointed to a valve stem under the hood connected to a small tank with a gauge and indicated this was the air source for the coach. The air hoses he gave me have a bicycle pump stem connector for this air source. Can the valve stem be replaced with and adapter for the quick disconnect standard air hose connections? The bicycle connection doesn't seem adequate for tire pressures of 100 pounds or more.

I have one standard air hose with standard quick connections. (I bought another hose and connections for an extension to reach to the rear of the toad when hooked up). I also have a lighter weight self-coiling hose with a quick connect on one end and bicycle type valve stem connector on the other. Sounds like you only got the second hose with yours.

Thanks for the response. I have two coiled hoses that connect together with the standard quick connect but one end of the first coiled hose has the bicycle connector that connects to the coach/factory air valve. My question concerned the removal and replacement of the coach/factory valve stem type connector with a standard quick connect used on nearly all air hoses. Is there an adapter that will allow the valve stem to be removed and a female/male quick connector to be added? If I only got the second hose, where does the standard hose connect? I cannot find a standard female/male connector for the air hose except for the bicycle stem.

My rig also came with that same rather flimsy hose and setup. I tapped into the air manifold near the generator, installed a gate valve, and ran an air hose to the left front compartment. I installed a female Shrader air quick connect in there and use a regular air hose.

If I understand, you are saying that the bicycle valve is where you connect the hose at the coach connector? ...my coach has a standard air hose female quick connect at the coach connection inside the front generator access door. There is no visible air tank at that point on mine, but it ties into the air system. I would suppose it would be possible to change the connector. I got my hoses & connectors at Northern Tool, but have seen them at Flying J and Harbor Freight also.

I think I would first call or email Winnebago Owner Relations to find our what was standard on your coach, and any other related info they could give you. You will need your coach s/n when you contact them. Telephone is 800-537-1885 and email is [email protected]. I have had great responses from them both by telephone and by email.

I found the air manifold you speak of. It feeds the small air tank with the valve stem, or vice versa and, is the only place approved for tying into the air supply--pays to read the book-ha. I will tap into the manifold and install the gate and quick connector valve.

Just as AFChap my 03 Horizon came with a standard female air hose fitting. Also on the line immediately behind the fitting is an on/off valve and air gauge. I find it hard to believe that Winnebago put a bicycle style air chuck on a 120psi system. I also agree with AFChap that you should call Winnebago before you start making changes.

I believe the s shrader valve has a specific purpose... to fill the air system with "Shop Air" to move a disabled air brake vehicle, or to service the brake system while in the shop without running the vehicles engine.

There should be a manifold that is fed off the main system. It will be a small block with several Allen head plugs.

OK, I am confused. There are actually two schrader valves on the air system in front. One is on the manifold and the other is atop a small air tank with a guage. This air tank location is where the former owner said to attach the air hose for the tires. The air hose has a bicycle air pump style connector that fits over the schrader valve. This is what I consider "Mickey Mouse" no offense Mickey. I am apparently confusing the schrader valve with a quick connector ("standard female air hose fitting"). I installed a quick connector on the manifold this morning and it works great. Thanks all for your help.

Interesting. I just went out and did a close inspection inside my generator access door. I cannot find ANY schrader valves. The only air connection I can find is a standard air system female quick connect mounted with an off/on valve and a pressure guage. I use this connector to air up tires, etc. Would this same connector be where a tow truck would apply air to release brakes, inflate air bags, operate brakes while towing, etc?

My coach goes into the shop tomorrow for leaking hydraulic lines. When it comes back, I will try to post pics of my air system. Can't believe they are that much different. I might add that HWH is stepping up to the plate to repair certain hydrailic hoses that have leaking problems, even on a 5 yr old coach.

I just discovered a leaking hydraulic hose where it connects to the cylinder at my rear slide. Your's is the second post I've found noting that HWH is replacing a leaking hose/fittings on a 2002 rig. Did you call HWH direct? I'm willing to replace the hose myself if they will provide the parts.

Look at the numbers on the high pressure hose (smaller one). If it reads HWH-02 USE 4540-30200 DIE, 4599-FP010 Pusher then it is part of the service bulletin and HWH will take care of it. Call 800-321-3494 and ask for Allan. I have 3 hoses leaking profusely. Apparently, there were a batch of bad hoses about the time our coaches were made. I'm sure they will send you a hose.
