This post is just to show that we can smell the roses along the way. We are on our way to Forest City to get some things taken care of on the new Vectra. Life is good.

All you full timers make me jealous.
Wish I could be out there to.
You will probably go right by me. If you travel I 380 you will be within three miles of my house.
Have a good trip. Forest City is a nice town.

Clear Lake is a nice state park. I have camped there and gone boating on the lake.
Clear Lake is where Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big bopper played last. Their plane crashed just outside of town in 1959. The day music died. You should go into town and see the ballroom and go to the visitor center, there is some history to be learned. They have a 50's dance every year in February in remembrance of all.

If you are looking for a day trip, Britt Iowa is the Hobo Capital of the world. It is just west of Clear Lake. I have not been there but want to go and see what it is all about.

If you are headed south after your service, you should consider visiting the Amana Colonies. The Amana Colonies is a German settlement made up of seven villages and have been a landmark on the Iowa prairie for over 150 years. The annual Maifest Festival is May 5-6. I will be camped at the Amana campground that weekend with our local camping club sponsored by our local Winnebago dealer. The Amana Colonies is south of Cedar Rapids.

jcar, thank you for the history lesson! I get all misty eyed when I hear that song, I had no idea I was here! We will explore the area while we are her.

Thank You
Jim

On the way to the Amana Colonies from Cedar Rapids you go within about 200 ft of my house. Just look to the left going over the railroad in Fairfax, you will see the Chieftain.

Lots of good food in the Amanas. A great place to eat in Clear Lake is the Starboard Market, 310 Main Ave.
