Geeze, seems like every time I go to work on this rig I come across another example of Winnebego's lousy assembly work.
Once again regarding electrical connections/installation, this time on the 12v side. My previous post was about the imporperly stripped and installed wires in the breaker panel. This week I went to install an upgraded vent fan assembly that required the old fan be removed, and the new one connected to the factory wiring and installed from below. When I removed the trim and screen, there's a small junction box with the fan/switch wiring going into the box. You can see it through the screen before disassembly.
After removing the vent trim piece and j-box cover, this is what I discovered. The connections were outside the box, and in the ceiling, with only the fan switch wiring passing through the box. While there was a grommet on the outgoing side, there was no plastic insert on the incoming side. The hot and ground were just laying in the opening of the box which has sharp edges. It's a junction box for gosh sakes, not a pass through box. The connections are supposed to be inside the box, and the wires protected from rubbing against the hole with a plastic insert, to prevent vibration from cutting through the wires and causing a short. Ugh... Makes me wonder what other things like this are in the rig where I can't see them. Going to take apart the bathroom fan to see if it's the same and correct it if needed.
Oh, and I removed one of the wheels to take in because of a slow leak, and figured it's a good time to check/grease the axle bearings. On the left side, the front hub showed no sign of any grease, while the rear hub did show obvious signs of greasing. Going to have to check the right side too. I'm thinking quality control, and proper assembly tech training on these rigs is non-existent.
