check the connections at the gen ...mine were loose and make sure your batteries are charged...

Yes like a solenoid...near the carburator.

Well , it might be bad connections to battery,.Is your rig an older unit,is it cold where you live?I would first check battery,then connectors for crud.

Highs today 40 degrees farenheit, connections are tight, is it the batter that starts the rig? Its a 97 model winnebego spectra

onan trouble shoot ,although all was mentioned here pertaining to your problem.When my house battery is discharged,gen will not start.That clicking noise tell me low juice or bad connection somewhere.

Do you have a "battery boost" switch? (you give us no clue what year and model rig you have...) ...it sounds like the house batteries are too low to start the generator. If you have a "battery boost" switch on the dash, you can hold it down and it will use the chassis batteries to start the generator. I've had to continue to hold it down for about a minute a time or two before the generator would get going enough to keep running...

Some diesel gensets have thier own battery and alternator.FWIW

Check to see if someone has hit the battery DISCONNECT SWITCH???When my grandchillen were younger
they would flip ever switch they could get their hand on. Been there done that!!!!!TENN.

I did mention my model and make in a previous post, scroll up. Its a 97 model winnebego spectra. The genset is an Onan Marquis. I put new batteries in for the coach back over the summer. I am going to take a meter and check them out tomorrow if I get a chance. It was starting fine week after week. I hope it is something simple. I had to replace the voltage regulator last summer also. It jumped the voltage to 146 and fried everything.

Bill, don't you mean "Vectra"? (I'm unfamiliar with a Winnie Spectra...)
Generally, Winnebago locates the house batteries switch (coach power on/off) near the entry door steps. If you turn off the coach batteries, your generator should not be able to crank.

I am one of many who read the list via email rather than logging in, so "scroll up" is not an option. Many times we just ignore/delete posts that do not include info critical to the question. Even when someone reads the list online, it would help to have your coach info in a sig line so readers would not have to scroll up and/or go back through pages of answers to hunt for the info. I think you would get more answers, and more pertinent answers, if others did not have to hunt for the info... JMHO ...

You'll get a lot more useful replies if you post the generator model/spec and serial number. Not real useful to have the coach numbers for a generator issue.
Someone familiar with Onan generators will know exactly what you have, known issues, suspected problems with that particular machine but they need to know exactly what you have. Numbers are on the generator data tag.

I had to figure out how to do the signature ono this. You are right, it is a Vectra. I will get the Generator numbers tomorrow.
