I've read a lot of threads in regards to suspension upgrades and anti sway etc etc. etc.

To improve the drivability of our class A I've installed an after market rear antisway bar and a super steer. I'd been planning on new shocks but couldn't get through all the rhetoric of "these are the best shocks" "love my..."

In any case, the local repair shop (plug out for them Valley Auto & RV Repair in Cloverdale) was adamant that the best shocks were Konis.

Well I just did the first trip and OMG what a difference. My unit is a 2007 Chassis with 53000 miles. I wish I had done this sooner.

just my 2 cents for those researching like i did.

I have heard good things about Konis.
Good to keep in mind for future replacement(s).
Thanks, Eagle5

Konig shocks

I'm curious what chassis do you have Ford or Workhorse? I currently have a 2009 Workhorse chassis with Bilstein shocks on it and I'm considering buying the Koni shocks but they're quite expensive at around $800 for a set so I'm curious what the difference is in the ride that you noticed and what shocks you had on before you put the new ones on. Thanks in advance for any response you might have.

I have a 2007 F53 chassis. I think it’s an 18000 GVW. The old shocks had 16 years and 50 000 miles.

I don’t get the loud thumping noise from hitting manhole covers, going up and down carbs isn’t so drastic, rebound after railroad tracks or bumps in the road is more controllable etc etc etc.

Glad you've seen a good improvement from the Koni shocks.

I replaced the OEM Bilstein shocks on my 26,000lb chassis F53 and didn't see much if any changes. My OEM shocks had less than 20,000 miles on them and were still in good shape.

I have often seen some people rave about the change the Koni's made and it usually seems to be with shorter motorhomes on lighter weight chassis.

I know I saw all these rave reviews and was excited to spend $1000 on shocks and install to improve the ride and handling of my 37" RV. We went on a long trip the day after the install and my wife and I paid attention to any differences. The best we could come up with was slightly better control on lightly bumpy roads.

But as I said, it's always good when a change is made for the better.

I have about 70,000 miles on my 2009 chassis and the rear shocks have never been changed the front shocks were changed about 50,000 miles ago so after hearing your responses I'm thinking I may go ahead with it because I may see some benefit with the older shocks especially on the rear. We have no plans on upgrading again so a little maintenance and Improvement is usually a good thing IMO.
