New RV-List of items to fill it with

First post here. I am picking up our first RV, a 2008 Destination 39W, this week.

Can everyone give some input on the best things to buy for it. Like hoses, extension cords, roadside kits, etc. Anything that you would say was a great thing for your coach. (It could be the best coffeemaker ever!)

CanAmFam: welcome to the forum :wavey: and congrats on the new rig.

The list can be long but here are a few items I would say are essential to get started:

.basic hand tools
.spray lube
.duct tape, silicone caulk, multi purpose adhesive
.hopefully, your dealer or previous owner will include a sewer hose and a fresh water hose. If not, get a good heavy duty sewer hose with connectors.

Most of us with RV's seem to accumulate so much stuff. I would get it and see what you really need/want along the way. You can always stop at a Walmart to get essential things like kitchen gadgets, towels, basic cleaning stuff, etc.

Where in VA are you? Also, do you have a three wheel motorcycle/s?

You might want to pick up 50' of white drinking water hose, a pressure regulator, and an extra sewer hose and attachments to hook onto yours to make it longer.

Hook the pressure regulator up to the faucet, then a filter, then the hose to the rv.

The plastic plumbing in an rv will only take a max of 55-60 PSI water pressure. Some campgrounds are cdonsiderably higher and will blow out your plumbing. I have my regulator set at 50 PSI.

When you get "rich" you might want to buy a surge protector to protect your electrical systems against power surges, which are not uncommon in campgrounds.

OK, I was thinking of the CanAm Spyder which is a modern, three wheeled cycle. I was born and raised in Mechanicsville on the east side of Richmond.

I would agree that a surge protector is vital. It has saved our bacon twice now. They are spendy but it would cost more to replace an air conditioner or a convection microwave, etc. I would also suggest a folding seven foot tall ladder. This can be stored in a pass through compartment. Also a GPS is really handy. Get a good weather alert radio if you will be traveling anywhere in the mid-west or southeast. You might also consider a water softener. You can buy one from Camping World that is designed for RVs. This will protect your faucets and back-flow valves from crudding up.

Don't forget to get electrical cord adapters. You need a 50A to 30A and a 30A to 20A adapter.

You will also want to get a 50A OR at least a 30A extension cord. I also carry 2 - 12 Gauge 20 Amp cords one a 25 footer and the 2nd a 50 footer.

You should also have a set of Triangle reflectors! Just in case.

Get one of these. Milton Deluxe Service Dual-Head tire guage 15 bucks.
Get a bag of those orange snap together square pads to place under your jacks, or tires, = Wallmart

Everyone's list will be different, and some folks "absolute requirement" will be something another person has no use for whatsoever. That said, my starter bare essentials list in somewhat order of importance would be ...

a good dual-foot tire pressure gauge, sewer hose & connections, drinking water hose, assuming a 50a coach 30a-50a and 20a-30a electrical adaptors, a GOOD surge guard that protects against high/low voltage, a folding step ladder 7' or 8', some eating utensils of your preference ...

You'll add to that list with your own preferences.

Electric air compressor (Black and Decker, $50) rated to greater than your recommended pressures. And ifyou have some money left, a tire pressure monitoring system (both for safety and to avoid checking the pressure manually in all tires every trip).

RV list

CanAm, we just made our first trip in our RV a couple of weeks ago. We read RV threads that suggested to pick up some of the plastic bins at Walmart to store items in your basement. We used the bins for just about everything to store in the basement. Separate ones to store our sewer hoses, water hoses, small electrics etc. This was a very helpful tip.

Tire chocking device, I prefer roto-chocks
Quick connector for water hose
Plastic bins, large ones with covers to store water hoses, electric cord, sewer accessories,,ie,,extra extension. I use 4 bins one for each type of use.
Plastic milk/2 liter crate for storing cleaning supplies, ant killer, wasp spray, and etc

I would buy a multimeter and learn how to use it. It will really come in handy because most of your problems are electrical.
