I just purchased a really nice 2002 34 ft.Journey DL. I take delivery next week.
While getting checked out on the leveling system, I asked Dont you dump the air 1st. the answer, You dont have a way to dump the air, just lower the jacks and extend slides.
Is this right?
Maybe a lot more dumb questions from me as this is my 1st diesel.
When I get my hands on that big bag of manuals I am sure I could have answered my own question, but until then??

This is how I do it.
Anticipate to keep at least one of the rear wheels on the ground. That is what is locked with the air brakes.
1 - dump the air
2 - level left to right
3 - level front to rear
4 - put slide out

Congrats on the Journey ... we enjoy ours ... I am sure you will enjoy yours ...

Our HWH leveler control has three buttons (on the left) ... [Level] [Store] [OFF]

To level the coach you turn the ignition key to the accessory position. Then you press the [Level] button, this releases the pressure from the air bags ... you will hear the air draining from the bags and the coach will settle a couple of inches ...

Then you press the arrow keys to deploy the jacks in pairs: front pair, right pair, left pair, and rear pair. The arrow keys are around a template of the rig

I am assuming that your controls are either identical or similiar.

Thanks, This is how it was probably explained to me. Somehow I was thinking a separate process to dump the air.
So the air is dumped when I push level, then continue to level. Ron

Don't know about yours, but ours has a button to dump air and I usually (I don't always remember) push this first to dump air from the air bags. This means less travel for the levelers to get you level.

If you push the 'level' button, it will first dump the air bags, and then start the leveling process. No need to manually dump the air bags before leveling.

Thanks for the replies. Yes indeed it dumps the air when you turn the levelers on then I level as suggested.
Got a water heater though that works just on propane. Have not had the time to check it out yet though. Just might be as simple as a circuit breaker.
Reall impressed with the power and handling. Man it goes up the hills like I have never experienced befor.
I did get a little surprise the 1st time I turned on the exhaust brake at 60 mph on a long down grade. 2nd gear and 2500 rpm. I think it did go to a lower gear for a short period prior to 2nd gear though. dropped me down to a more reasonable speed just dandy.

RCtime -- I had my transmission/engine brake reprogrammed to only shift to 4th gear, not down to 2nd gear, for the exact reason you cited. I use the engine brake to slow me down going down long grades primarily, and shifting down to 2nd is way too agressive.

You can have the reprogramming done at your Allison service shop.
