New guy tire question

We just purchased a 2010 Winnebago TOUR knowing it would need tires ASAP
we are now in the process of acquiring said tires.
Using the FMCA discount programs the CONTINENTAL tires are approximately
$100 each less than Michelin. Does anyone have experience with the CONTINENTAL tires. Size is 275/80R 22.5

I have run Continental HCLs for about 10 yrs now. They drive well, wear well, and are not noisy. I would absolutely recommend them. My original size is 275/80. I am now running 295/75 as they are easier to find. They are almost identical in size, etc, just .05 in taller.

I too am looking at the Continental brand but model HSR2 in a 16 ply. A good design for class A coach.

The ones I have run are HSL &HSL2 ...not HCL.

If they meet your needs then why not? I've always had good service out of Michelins but usually I've needed a MH tire size that only Michelin made at the time too.

That's what I was told about the 275/80 22.5s but I later found that wasn't true.

For the '02 DSDP I went from the 275/70's to 305/70's on the front to gain capacity, Continental had them listed in their books but they hadn't yet produced them.
Present rig takes 365/70's on the steer and tag and no one but Michelin makes that one yet.

Find your 275/80 dimensions and RPM. Compare with the Toyo chart. I went to the 295/75R 22.5 146/143L 120psi tire. I have Conies on the front. Long sad story. Payed too much for them through FMAC compared to the Toyo's.

see you have 40u, same as ours. maxium chassis, you mounted 295/75R 22.5 on rear duals with no clearance problems?

LOL, boy this one will certainly gain a plethoric of replies. Asking which tire is the best is like asking what is best Coke or Pepsi. LOL. I ran Continentals on the two fivers I ran, but have always ran Michelin on the five DPs. Personally, it's a matter of choice.
You won't believe this but I drove a 40' Newmar for almost 15 years and when I downsized to a smaller rig, the Newmar had the original tires on it. The rig had +98,000 miles on it and the tread was still good and there were no signs of cracking on the sidewalls. I did have them taken off the rims once at around the 9 year mark. The mech was amazed that they were that old. Take care of your tires, your life is riding on them. Cover them, don't store the rig on dirt, and most importantly, four corner weigh your rig so you know exactly what pressure you should be running. Of all the tire manufacturers Michelin is the only one I know of that produces a very detailed manual on weighing and adjusting air pressure on every size they make. It can be used by other make tires as well. I know I peeled a grape here, but I am fanatic when it comes to taking care of my tires (life).

FYI… this thread is going on 7-years old. The original posters are long gone and probably replacing those tires from 7-years ago already. When asking new questions it’s always more productive to start a new thread to ask everyone on the forum instead of asking someone from 2017 what they did.

This is why irv2.com has a warning msg that appears when trying to post to an old thread, I like that for an obvious reason.

We have it here, too. People just choose to click "accept" and post without realizing. They do a search for a topic, find a similar thread and post a reply without ever looking at the original date on the posts in the thread.

As with this thread... the first post in the thread was made by a new member that has never posted again.

Certainly, the folks resurrecting these old threads are unaware of the age, even with the "check a box warning" telling them it's an old thread.

Some forums automatically lock after a set period - this check a box warning process is seen as a half-way measure to keep a thread from being posted on but not closing the thread permanently.
