New 2017 View 24G Owner With Questions

Hi. we are Ken and Marlene. we just purchased a 2017 View 24G we loved our 2008 View 24J and had it for 7 years, but we want to do a long trip and we wanted to get out of the corner bed. Just a couple of questions we hope can be answered. the top drawer just under the two burner stove is only 1and1/2 inches deep. What are people using this drawer for? Our cutlery tray is 2" deep and it doesn't work in there. And #2. On the middle drawer just under the top drawer there is a small square thing stuck on there. I think it might be a lock of some kind but can't figure out how it might work. it has a small opening in the middle, and push buttons top and bottom that expand and contract the small opening. It looks like something might lock in there like a square piece on the end of a strap to keep the drawer closed during travel but there is no strap just this little thing stuck to the drawer. Has anybody else run across this?

I got this one from Amazon and it just barely fits. I was thinking of taking a dremel tool and just trimming the back a hair. It works now, but just scrapes a tiny bit.
