NAVION / Bed or no bed over cab?

My wife and I are putting our list of wants together for ordering a Navion and debating whether or not to to go for the bunk over cab versus the skylight. We're wondering if anyone here has gone through that decision process... and what they ended up deciding?

If you will ever have guests, especially grandchildren, go for the bed. I think I would get it any way as it should increase the resaleability of the motor home. We traveled in Europe in a Dethleffs Globebus 6.5 m, which is about 20' long. With the over cab bed our adult daughter coluld leave her bed made up all the time and we could leave the queen size bed in the back made up all the time. This let us use the small quarters very efficiently. We were very comfortable with three adults on a three week trip.

Bought a 2013 Navion IQ 24g with 4,000 miles 3 months ago without the cabover. Much prefer the large front skylight and the large storage cabinets over the cab seats. Just the two of us and used the hideabed sofa when our granddaughter spent the night.

We were in the market for a Navion/View or Via/Reyo. Considered storage as a extremely important feature. Bed over cab would never be used in our case. Purchased a Via with storage over cab area.

I was in the same dilemma. I opted for no bed over the cab for the following reasons...
*I wanted the extra storage over the cab.
*95% of the time it is just my girlfriend and me, I didn't want it to be too convenient to have to take her kids or my grandkids along. That may sound selfish, but I have the RV to RELAX, not babysit!
*Though my dealer said there isn't a noticeable difference, I would think the mileage would be slightly better as it's more aerodynamic.
*It looks to me the bed over design is a great way to catch bugs, windshields are hard enough to clean, I can't imagine crawling up there to scrub them off the overhang too.
*I like the sleeker looks from the outside and the skylight from the inside.
*I read a review online but couldn't find the link for you. It said something along the lines that with the bed over design next to the "table" sofa, that they kind of conflict each other and it isn't a great design. I'll keep searching and if I find it, I'll post the link. Good luck with your decision!

We have had 10 RV.s (TT to 37' ) With all differenty sleeping accodations. This Navion 23H has a cab over bed. which we use vary nice sleeping. This floorplan has a couch that will make bed and a dinet that will make into a bed. If we have guest that is where they will sleep. What is nich about this plan wife can go to bed and I can stay up and read or use my laptop. I think I'm as happy with this as any I have had. Unless you his the road fulltiming (which we did for two years) then my 37 would be the way to go.

PS: Just as a aside started on a xmas vacation and 30 miles north of Magic Mountain blew a Tranny hose???? had to be towed 45 miles to a Sprinter dealer that could help us. Took all day (parts) (they did give us a MB to go home to San Diego ) $1650.00 later we were on the road. When you buy used with 80000 miles you might have trouble. LOL
