MW 22M rear slide out top platform bed issue

Hi everyone.
Hope all is well with you during this time.
My husband & I have been enjoying our MW 22m.
Noticed recently the wood platform part of the bed (near the foot of the bed) right under the 2 bed cushions is bending & broken on the side closest to the armoire.
Neither one of us is heavy, so don't understand it.
The platform does sit up on the 4 corners of the bed a few inches which doesn't give it a solid type base to begin with, & I'm sure the board it's made out of is inferior as well.
Have any of you had this issue?

Ours is like that too and in addition to inferior quality materials ours was screwed on out of square. Hope we get some great ideas to upgrade this "cheesy" installation. Never made any sense why anyone would want air from the storage compartment to pass up into the bedroom???

Minnie Winnie 22M Platform Problem

My platform has also fallen apart. How did you fix it besides ordering a $320 part from Winnebago?

I was the original poster, I repositioned my platform correctly and re-screwed the hinge to the base. So far its working and has not fallen apart. Aparently we are the only ones with the problem as nobody has posted a solution. If mine bends or carcks I will replace it with a sheet of good multilayer plywood.

Anybody out there have comments or a fix???

Mine is still intact, but when I was doing some deck fiberglassing work this summer, I started using a plywood which is called ACU. The A grade side is clear laminate, the C grade side is filled knots, and the U stands for Underlayment. The laminate glue is also eXterior-rated. It is 3/16" thick, and intended to replace ½" particle board in kitchen floors. Very strong and lightweight, and with clear fir stiffeners, a new bed base made from it would be very strong and light. Wood glue and flooring staples would be used in the construction.

Hello,
I signed up for this forum for this problem. We have just had ours for 3 weeks and just got back from a 5 day trip and discovered we have a broken platform as well.
My thoughts are a good piece plywood might work, or possibly take the broken one apart a go from there?
If anyone has found a solution please post it.

Follow up

Here is wha at I found and what I did to correct the problem with my bed platform.

It is easy to remove, best if you have an extra set of hands for the last couple of screws in the hinges.

My original platform only about a third of the bottom part glued towards the rear of the coach. When anyone would sit on the edge of the bed by the closet failure was going to happen, and it did.

The top of the platform withe the grey mat was only fastened using only the tiny staples.

In my opinion repair was not the best option.


I bought a 4x8 sheet of 3/4 birch plywood and made a new one and it is much better.
Sure it weighs more, but I was still able to pick it up and install it without any problems. The original platform was just not suited for any amount of weight.
The new one can still be lifted with one hand for access to the storage area.



We use the Millard tri-fold mattress that are 31 inches wide by 6 inches thick
And we find them to work well, easy to set up and easy to store. We have two sleeping bags with 2 inch foam that we sleep on top of instead of sheets, easy to wash and dry.
This is how we decided to address the platform failure and the sleeping arrangement we use.
Hope this helps somebody else that may have this issue now or in the future.

Thanks Eagle 5, sorry it took a while to get back to ya, but I been busy. Check out my last post and you can see how I chose to resolve the bed platform issue.
Ours is also a 2019, purchased pre-owned(doesn't that sound better than used) with only 2248, and 1400 of that was from the factory to the dealer. Previous owner owned it for about 14 months and never camped in it.
It is on the E 350 chassis.

Hi Coffeebean,
Nothing wrong with a solid ¾" sheet of plywood. Yes, it is hard to say that your 22M was used. I believe "previously stored for a year" would be a better description. How did you solve the ¾" change in height with the new three-segment mattresses?

It doesn't present a problem most of the time. It can be taken care of with an extra blanket or furniture pad folded up and placed in the low part If needed.
With the 6 inch memory foam and the 2 inchs of foam in the sleeping bags and a pillow or two sleeping is good.
I would not want to live in it, but it is pretty cozy to travel in.
The other part I like about the tri folds is you can prop them up under the head and a little in the knees and almost feel like a recliner watching tv in bed.

We had that very problem with sagging sides! Removed the bottom base on the hinge. Removed the floppy poorly constructed base and replaced it with 3/4 in plywood. Replaced the trim and carpet top. Works great! Poor construction at the factory.

Our 2019 22m also had floppy sides and bow in the foot piece. We removed all of it and replaced the bottom board with a solid 3/4 in plywood. Replaced the trim back and the carpet top. Didn’t affect any of the slide out function. Factory shirt cut was worthless.

We did that exact same thing to ours. It was so poorly put together with staples and cheap thin Louan boards. Glad to see someone else used 3/4 inch boards.

We have the same issue with our 22M. I made some wooden blocks to place while bed is extended to offer support under that cheap piece of plywood which looks as if was designed to fail. I will replace with plywood solution I believe coffee bean used to correct this issue when we are off the road for an extended time. Just have to remember to remove blocks before retracting slide. Bugzy

When needing to remember to remove the blocks before retracting your slide, just put a piece of tape on the slideout switch.
My bed finally came loose where everybody else's bed did also. I repaired mine with a little fiberglass:

Just finished repair of bed platform. I applied Coffee Beans solution and it worked perfectly. Thank You Coffee Bean. Birch plywood 3/4 pricey but very solid and a big improvement over factory. Thanks for you inputs. Bugzy
