Motorcycle Lift/Carrier?

Hello,

I'd rather not have to tow a trailer for my motorcycle. I'm looking for someone with experience with motorcycle lifts or carriers which mount on the back of a motor home. Something like this or the attached picture.

If you have a lift or carrier, what do you use? How heavy is your bike? How is it mounted to your motor home? Did you have to have reinforcement steel added to support the bike?

stay away from Mighty Hauler brand lifts. I purchased one and it failed in the first 6 months, Company refunded purchase price but refused to refund install labor or $'s for return freight. They are NOT capable of hauling a larger motorcycle as they advertise. Steel actually split and was close to entire unit falling from back of our unit! Go with one of the more recognized and reputable, tried and true brands like Blue Ox, Cruiser Lift ect. Wish I had.

Motorcycle lifts are not recommended unless you have a tag axle coach. Installation on single axle coaches will grossly overload the rear axle.

So why don't you list your coach/model and the motorcycle and weight of the motorcycle you want to haul.

Hydralift and Cruiserlift are the two brands I've seen installed. They are generally welded to the frame.

It's a 2003 Itasca Sunrise 36M (Ford) and a 2004 Triumph Speedmaster.

So what is your rear axle weight when you are fully loaded? If you are within 1500 lbs of your maximum rear axle weight, then no, you don't want to do this.

I would need to take it to a scale to determine that I guess. This is the first motor home we bought - always rented before, so I really appreciate your challenging questions. I don't want to do this if not done right.

No-go because of the type of RV you own. Your chassis is only rated to carry 500 pounds vertical weight at the hitch receiver. Assuming you pull a car or truck you are already using part of this weight for your tow dolly or tow bar.

Generally the RVs with Motorcycle Lifts are large pushers with tag axles and 10,000 pound towing capacity, and even then they often need to have their frames reinforced to carry a heavy motorcycle and the weight of the lift and the large twisting forces of carrying a load like that hanging in the air behind the back of the chassis handled properly
