have a 2014 Vista 35F. When the least amount of wind blows the topper, the roller comes up off the bracket causing a loud bumping. Has anyone else experienced that issue?

If I understand the situation correctly, there seems to be about five items that have to stay connected together to keep the topper in place. That seems to mean one or more are broken, bent or loose?
So I do not know the names of the parts but made a snip of the parts drawings to let us talk about it a bit better.
Can you tell us which of these numbers seems too loose from the next one?

I'm guessing number 1 did not rip loose from the slide as that would be an easy one to spot. But did 2 come loose from 1?
Or what do you see not attached to what next part?
I might guess that a weak point might be the pin that holds 4 on 3 might be a suspect but that would be too easy to get it on first guess!
Tell us more about what you see?

We had that problem with the 2002 Journey we had. The wind would get under the lip of the topper and balloon it out and then start flapping violently. The wind had to be strong and coming from the left front. The only way to stop it was to slow down a bit. Our 2012 Journey does not seem to have that problem.

The problem is with the bracket in the center of the topper roller. Do you have a picture of that part?

That year and model of RV has two different build dates, early and late. Then each RV seems to have two slides. That combo and lack of actually knowing what RV you have, makes it very difficult to spot what the problem might be as we have little idea of where to look.
Since things like awnings often get changed, it may be more direct if you can tell or show us what you actually have, rather than what the drawings show was on the RV as built.
It may be better if you take some pictures to tell or show us what you are seeing?

Here is the picture of the bracket. When the wind blows the topper lifts up then drops back down making a loud bump.

I posted the pictures. Thanks for your help!

Okay, we got the pictures and it fits the drawings as well. But that still leaves a big question as it is obvious that the roller is not meant to be attached there and no way it has come loose!
Maybe we can get more info from other folks who have that type fitting and the same cover?
My theories are not going to go far but just some thoughts on how that center spot could come up. For the center to come up enough to bang back down, seems like the whole cover would have to either bend in the center or at least one end be loose enough to lift???
Do any of you other folks see/hear this happen on windy days?
Too much flex in the center if some inside part is bent or broken seems like it might be a casue but that also seems pretty unlikely if the whole staysion place most of the time!

Try a simple no-cost thing first. There are rewind springs inside the roller tube. Use a spray can of lubricant and the straw to spray the springs through the tiny hole in each end-cap. Then extend/retract the slide a few times to distribute the lubricant in the spring coils. Once the spring are free to rub against each other it will put more tension on the topper material.

Thanks for all the help. We finally found a picture ( been looking for a couple weeks) of the bracket and realized ours is broken. My husband called Winnebago and they said It should have a piece that goes over the roll when it’s open that holds it down. On ours the pieces are not there. We have ordered one. We have only had it three months so I’m thinking the dealership didn’t inspect it as well as they said. This forum is a great thing!
