Just Completed Flat Screen Conversion

It's wonderful to have a retired cabinet maker living next door. Between the two of us and a 5th of Crown Royal for his time and expertise, this is the finshed produt. We got rid of the big plastic housing and made a smaller housing out of cherry wood. Where the housing fastened to the roof of the coach, we cut a piece of plywood and covered it with vinyl to match the ceiling and installed a vent.

Here is a picture of the side view without the big bulky plastic housing.

Sorry, but we didn't think to take pictures of the "innards". But I can tell you that it is just a wood framework with the ring attached to it. Also, to gain access to the TV, all I need to do is take out the 4 little wood plugs and unscrew the 4 screws and the TV comes out with the front woodwork attached to it.

He enjoyed doing it and I really appreciated the help.

I might add, that for 17 years, he did cabinet work for Beaver Coaches.

The vent is located right behind the TV.

Thanks for the additional picture, Norton. Did you just remove the whole steel cage for the original TV?

I don't know about Steve G, but the whole steel cage on ours is gone to recycle. It's a wooden framework attached to the ceiling and the side cabinets. The only metal left was where it was attached to the roof and that was used for extra support.

Norton, or anyone who has removed that metal cage, how did you get it out? I just bought an LCD tv, have removed my Sony brick and would love to do what Norton did but that cage looks almost impossible to remove.

Why would you do that? I have a friend that had a coach that was wood support that came down while on the road. A 32" Sharp will fit in there nicely by flareing out the sheet metal on each side, and 100% anchored to metal, by metal.
