Time frame: Leaving Jasper July 8th, 2025

My wife and I will be traveling from Jasper to Vancouver, then down to Washington State and then Oregon. We aren't sure of our itinerary and plan on playing it by ear, deciding while we're in Jasper.

Will we have issues finding last minute campsites?
NOTE: We're set up for boondocking, so could disperse camp in The Royal Crown Land in Canada and National Forest/BLM in the USA.

Thanks!

Hi The Gabe,
I believe that you should try to make reservations for Southbound US 101 down the Oregon Coast. Southbound is a great direction to do your tour (right turn off and back onto a two-lane highway). If you get a list of options for your parks, you could call a few days out and see what is available. July is a popular RV month in Oregon.
Bruceport Park isn't too bad if you want to camp in SW Washington just before you get to Oregon:

Peak rving and camping starts July 4th week and lasts until Labor Day. In my experience getting into the campgrounds you want for the days you want is pretty difficult without reservations.

I’ve not been on that route, so I can’t know but I doubt it’s different than anywhere else in the West in July/August.

We did the reverse trip: Oregon to Jasper (and then back down to Alberta and points east on the tRransCanadian Highway) last summer. We traveled in mid-June We made our reservations well ahead of time so I can only report on the empty spaces in campgrounds. We stayed mostly in public campgrounds. Jasper to Banff was all booked up--might have been some folks lucking out at the last minute, but the campgrounds were jam packed every night. Going west out of Banff though there seemed to be a good number of empty sites in the National Parks and provincial campgrounds. We stayed at a commercial campground in Vancouver that was pretty full. Washington state parks were busy but not crowded so I suspect you could find last minute stops. Same with Oregon, although were coming from Colorado so I don't have any info on US 101 or other western campgrounds

That whole trip through was amazing both the drives and the stops. Have fun.

Thanks creative part. I would expect it to be busy.

Enjoy! My wife and I are getting to Banff July 7th. Then heading to Kelowna, Vancouver, Washington, Oregon, and then wherever we desire to go before heading back to Kentucky to. Is it family.

You shouldn't have much of a problem in Canada but I agree with reservations ahead of time in Oregon and prepare yourself for the drive through Seattle it's a white knuckler

Hi Gabe And All !
We live in top left Wa State and what’s said about Seattle ‘white knuckle’ driving is true, more and more.
I heartily recommend taking the WaStare Ferry from Whidbey Island to Port Townsend, there are nice places to see and some nice State Parks along that route south. Do get ferry reservations as soon as possible.
It’ll be a cool diversion and nice boat ride.
We have discovered some great spots to stay along the way down coast to Astoria OR.
Another thing that has certainly served us well is Harvest Host, not only for last minute stays, but nice people and places you’d not normally get to meet & see !
~ Enjoy And Do ~5

Either north or south bound, take Interstate 405 and Highway 167 to avoid both Seattle and Tacoma.

Thanks Danjuan! Unfortunately, I've already reserved the Victoria to Port Angeles Ferry.

I'd use iOverlander and RV parky apps to see what spots are available. I spent the winter in Arizona and was going to go up there after and iOverlander showed quite a few options

We went up the Oregon Coast a couple springs ago before heading east to get to Glacier NP. Weather was abysmal, but truly one of the most spectacular regions we've seen. And the seafood - out of this world!

Here are the campgrounds we stayed at. The one in Harbor was pretty ordinary, but still looked to be the best in that area and a short walk to the beach. The one in Central Point is just south of Grants Pass along I5 which is a good place to start heading east if that's what you have in mind. We would stay at any of them again and would think you would want to make reservations - particularly in July. It will be mega crowded.

Am a bit of a beer geek - so Pelican (multiple locations) and Rogue are along the route. My wife was on a journey to find the best clam chowder and Pelican was her favorite one.

Other bits that I remember as being epic are the Columbia River Maritime Museum in Astoria, dipping down into Cali to see Redwood NP, and the Columbia River Gorge.

Have fun and safe travels!
