An RVer preparing to pick up a 2018 Minnie Winnie 31K asked for opinions on RV insurance, noting they already use State Farm for home and vehicles and Hagerty for a Corvette, but Hagerty does not cover RVs. Members mentioned satisfaction with Progressive, National General through the Allstate family, Mutual of Enumclaw, and using an RV-focused broker who can compare multiple carriers.

Several members emphasized shopping coverage rather than choosing only by company name, including checking...

Picking up my 2018 Minnie Winnie 31K next Saturday and asking for opinions on insurance. I currently have home/vehicles with State Farm but dropped my older Vette and went with Hagerty for a much better deal (they don't do RVs though). I would appreciate any comments/opinions and advice from the group on insurance for my RV. Thanks much in advance for your help !

A couple years ago I changed to Nation General, its part of the Allstate family. The main reason for going with them was the ability to stop paying the liability part while the coach sits the winter away.

We find good value in going to a broker who handles lot of different companies. In that way, they tend to look for what fits me better than trying to sell the one company they have!
Do you want service to look for what YOU want or do you want to talk to a salesman selling you what they have?
The market changes almost daily in what each company offers, so we do not go with any specific company but like to have a guy who listens to what we want, does some study and may come back with 2-3 different plans before we sort out which fits us at the time.
For RV, we want something that works all over the country as a first thought but then there are often smaller points to consider like deductables and limits on coverage. Very big deal there if you do have aclaim at some point!
Combined with your other insurance is often a good idea but that is part of the shopping to see if it works better as a total or better as a single issue for the RV.
We have done both and the total may change which way we go.
Go into it knowing you may be talking to a saleman! But it IS okay to break their heart and go somewhere that fits better!

I use the Mutual of Enumclaw with a Members Best program. It combines my home and autos into one monthly payment. Hagerty seems to be a niche marketer for garage queen cars. State Farm has been reluctant to payout legitimate losses, so they sort of scare me.

I’ve been very happy with Progressive RV insurance. And my broker in Forest City, IA. They proactively keep watching my rates every year. And I’ve had three claims since 2017. No hassles getting covered.

I guess it all depends on how much you are driving. Many companies will not offer a "suspend" option if you leave it in one place for most of the year. I'm very happy with my AmFam policy ($165/year), but I have it as a requirement of the RV resort that I've been parked at for 6 years.

When I bought my RV, I went with Progressive. I haven’t had any claims experience but I’m happy with the rates.
