Heater core bad

We have a 2000 Chieftain 36 DP, the heater core has developed a small leak,should last longer than 5 years.Is there a break down on removal and all that is involed.

Our 1996 Adventurer 38 Gas Ford 460 also developed a small leak last week-end. First thing that gave it away was the smell of anti-freeze when turning on the heat. Opening the front hood, the core is located in the upper left side. Completly enclosed. Now I'm puzzled as to the best way to replace this core. Is there any one out here that can guide myself along with Bill554 above? Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Our heater core went out like yours, small leak. Cost $600 for repair, but our extended warranty covered. I watched the work being done and it appeared to be time consuming. We only had 7000 miles on the unit.

Hi limandlin, I have a 02'36LD with a leaking heater core. Did they remove your front cap to get to the heater core? Trying to decide if I want to replace myself or take the coach in for service. Any help would be appricated. Thanks.

I just had mine replaced this summer. They did pull the front clip. Hope this helps.

When you guys say the front cap or clip, are you referring to just the portion below the windshield? Also, are you replacing the core with a better core or using OEM?

Yes, I am talking about the front of the coach from the windshield down. I called customer support and they faxed me a breakdown of the front. I purchased a replacement core from my local dealer. I am not impressed with it, but I will replace my leaking one. I am going to take the old one to a radiator shop and have a heavy duty core built.

Heater Core in our 2000 Journey started leaking on our trip from Nevada to Wyoming. By the time we got home it was really bad - had to take it to freightliner place in Montana. Hope to get it back within a couple of weeks. While driving to Montana (192 mi.) the condensation in the coach got so bad we could hardly keep the windows clear enough to drive. They told us it was from running the defrosters. Thankfully we purchased the extended warranty.
