Hauling porteboat on ladder

Just check out the weight of the boat. Remember you will be placing a load on the ladder that recieves jolts while going down the road. I have heard of stress cracks developing in the end cap, due to weights placed on the ladder while moving...

Carried ours on the roof of a motorhome and a fiver. Just drilled some holes and mounted homemade brackets with lag bolts (well caulked, of course). Sold it awhile ago becasue the new motorhome has so much stuff on the roof there was literally no open space large enough for the Portabote. Didn't think of the ladder and probably would not have tried it if I had. I think it would have been too tall anyway - my Portabote was about 13 feet when folded.

I can't help with the ladder question, but I also carry my porta-bote (12' model) on the roof. Drilled into roof supports, and also used a cedar spacer that I made to fit the curvature of the roof. Then used 3M 5200 adhesive/sealant to coat both sides of the cedar spacer and bottom of the porta-bote carrier bracket, then screwed in place. It's worked out good for me, and is easy to take up and down from the roof.

.....you will loose your boat and your ladder-hope it doesn't hit anyone else in the windshield....you do have insurance don't you?....geofkaye

As Kayerivercity said, I hope you do have insurance. I repair these and believe me, there is no backing to hold the ladder. Most installs use expandable pop-rivets and folks thats all that holds you up when you climb the ladder. I see all kinds stuff that is carries on these ladders and people are just asking for problems when you load it. I saw one going down the road with 3 bicycles and a ladder hung off a home made bracket. The RV manfactures have not come up with any help in this matter either. It all comes down to COST. My two cents.
