Has anyone ever changed air filter on 39qd/330 CAT

Not yet but planning to do it myself...How many miles did you go beforw replacement...I am at 19,000 and 3 notches to go before red on the plastic guage......RKL

Hello GC1,
Replaced the air cleaner on our 350 CAT at about 22,000 miles because I thought it was clogged. The Vacuum indicator was at about three notches from the red. The drain valve at the bottom of the air cleaner was missing and I thought a lot of dust from dirt roads we travel had been sucked into the cleaner. Easy enough job to replace but turned out to be unnecessary. The new filter went immediately to 4 notches from the red. Cleaned and kept the old filter.

I had 18,800 miles on the engine. The sight glass was about 1/3 up from the bottom. I was told do not depend on the sightglass. In order to change it part of the exhaust system had to be taken apart 3hrs work at Freightliner.$$$$$$$$$$$$$. I was loosing power going up hills on the interstate. I would have never made it back from Florida.

I have an 03 39 QD, I put a reusable style (like the K/N type) in right after we got the coach. It came with a canister as well. The install took about 20 or 30 minutes. I think I paid around $185.00 for it at Quartsite last year from one of the vendors (walk around to find the best price) It performs outstanding and it's the last air filter you will have to buy since you just clean it out and reoil it. If you price the OEM replacement you will find the the one I bought is not a bad deal.

Don't forget the time factor on the old filter you kept. The material they are made of detriorates over time.

Hi JoeT,
I would assume that the Freightliner filters would last several years both on and off the vehicle. Since the filter I removed was less than one year old, I'll probably hang on to it as a spare until I replace the new filter. The can type filters cost around $100.00 and are easy to replace in 10 minutes or less. I'll probably scrap both of them at that time.
