We learned our lesson using our phone Android Auto for a GPS on our first trip with our 35ft Motorhome with pull vehicle.
Issues it caused:
1. GPS took us off the express way to save 2 miles on a road with a 11-foot train bridge we couldn’t fit under. Thankfully there was a side road we could take without having to do a u-turn with a pull vehicle.
2. Every time someone called my phone the GPS screen went away.
3. Pain with combination GPS, Radio and Phone
4. No real way to Find Points of interest on the route you are on. Rest stops, Gas Station, Restaurants, RV Parks, Truck stops
5. Doesn’t work when you don’t have cell coverage
We purchased a Garmin RV GPS. The best money we have spent on RV item.
Why RV Garmin:
1. Cell phone is a cell phone, Radio is a radio and GPS is a GPS.
2. Generally, it keeps you on RV compatible roads with bridge clearances. If you program the GPS for your RV specs.
3. Has a scrolling list of Points of interest (with miles) on side while traveling. On’y show you what is on your route (not what you have just past). Only show you gas stations that you can fit in.
4. We Like Love’s truck stops. We stay overnight at Truck stops when traveling. We found a way to program GPS to Specifically Show upcoming Love’s.
5. Doesn’t need cell coverage.
6. We also use RV Life to plan trip. I found a way to dump into GPS. Note: you need to program several waypoints, or it may not take you the same way RV life takes you. I wish RV life would work with Garmin to make this seamless.
If you get a Garmin, make sure you perform updates before every trip, so you have Points of interest updated and road changes.
