The striker bolt on my entry door is rather loose. if it slides up in use the door won't latch without pushing it down before closing.

The bolt goes through a plate that is screwed to the door frame. When i remove the screws for that plate, the plate is held on to some degree by the striker bolt. The bolt doesn't tighten or loosen in any obvious way.

Anyone encounter this and find a way to fix it?

My older verson is on the right in this video, and the bolt is adjustable by slighly loosening it and moving it a bit, then retightening.
This video might be helpful for newer door striker bolts assemblies:

So watching this video when he says the adjustment is complete, I have the same vertical movement he shows. The problem is if the bolt is in the upper side of that movement it doesn't close and I have to manually push it down and then close door. Is that normal?
