Downsizing to View/Navion in the near future

Congrats on the new rig. I, too hope it provides a much quieter, smoother ride for you! That would be a big upgrade and hopefully add many happy years of RVing! Keep us posted...
Peace and safe travels

Thanks, today was our first road trip in the new rig. We’ve been stuck in one RV park for the past week getting everything organized and set up.

So today we hooked up and drove 260 miles on the start of a trip home. We set this up for 3 short days as a full scale test.

Let me tell you, the difference driving is night and day. Smooth, quiet, easy. Zero banging on bridges or even over potholes. Did I mention 14 mpg!

For once we arrived rested and relaxed.

Also, my new View 24R has a Truma A/C that runs fine off of the Xantrax 2000w inverter and 320 amp hour Lithionics battery. Couple that with a second alternator dedicated to charging the battery and we ran the A/C in the coach the whole trip, with only battery power and when we arrived the house battery was at 99% SOC.

Set up was much simpler as well.

So downsizing was very tough but today did provide a payoff in all that pain.

How was the 4 cylinder power and the shift points? One problem I have with my 2023's 7 speed tranny is that they geared 1st too high and it's hard to get rolling.

Really good. And pulling the heavy 4400 lb Nautilus Hybrid was surprisingly good. Today we drove in a quite hilly area across New Mexico, some at 4-6000 ft elevations. I drove 64 mph the whole way and did not see a lot of slowdowns on large hills. Honestly, I was surprised how well it went. And it is very energetic from a start.

You got 14 mpg TOWING? Just wow. I'm impressed.

Well it’s just one 260 mi trip. I’ll need more datapoints. But we were pleased with the result.

I need to clear up exactly what chassis my View has. Winnebago’s brochure say it’s a 2500 High Output, but Mercedes says it’s a 3500 XD.

Mercedes' app is more right (they'd know lol). A 2500 is a single rear wheel van chassis with ~30" less wheelbase. The 2500 refers to the engine as the HO is the High Output (aka twin turbo).
The big discussion these days are which is better for Rvs: The 3500 or the 4500. The consensus seems to our 3500 as the 4500 cuts into the already limited weight constraints.

Sprinter-Source.com - The best reSource for Sprinter van owners and enthusiasts. is a good site for us Sprinter owners. Just remember, whatever you do, do NOT let anyone lift your RV by the rear differential! Unless it's a M-B stealership, it's always worth re-iterating.

Apparently all the 4 cyls (for the US market) are twin turbo with the only difference between the high output and the standard output being software. The official Mercedes EPC and WIS shows different turbos for HO vs SO but apparently the Mercedes documentation is wrong, at least for the US market.

See this SS thread where member zimonomiz and Mercedes tech Maslin both explain it: Standard or High output 4cy diesel?

Also note something that every HO owner should be aware of is that the HO tune will automatically de-rate to the standard tune when the oil exceeds the maximum allowable temperature.

That's some pretty good MPG. I was getting a solid 14.7 not towing at 62-65 MPH, then we started towing the Jeep and that dropped to 12-13. Of course I have the older V-6. I think I may be driving a little faster than when we first got the rig, back then I held pretty close to 62 but now I find myself pushing 65 and even a little more sometimes.
What speeds are you averaging?

While driving my new View is much easier and more comfortable than my 38’ gas coach… driving 5 hours is still driving 5 hours. Whodathunkit?

Very different driving… everything. A real plus with the new RV.
Driving the Mercedes must feel like driving...a Mercedes.
