Dam Site Campground at Fall River Lake

This will be the end of our third year of full-time RVing in our motor coach. In that time, we have camped in all kinds of places. Some were really nice and some not so much. This next leg of our adventure takes us to eastern Kansas. Not exactly a tourist destination but it's on the way to South Carolina where we plan to spend most of next winter. Now the fourth of July just happens to come the first week of the trip so finding a place to park was a challenge but as luck would have it, we found a nice little Army Corps campground called Dam site campground at Fall River lake. Nice spot by our standards. You might say it’s a dam site better than most. So, we are three days in, and all is well until the dam engineer and his drilling crew show up and start drilling a dam test hole for measuring the level of the dam water. Apparently, the dam water is leaking out from under the dam, and the dam engineer is there to ensure the dam water doesn’t wash all the dam site campers down steam. The drilling only lasted a couple of days, and it is comforting to know that no dam water will be escaping, and we can rest easy knowing that the whole dam drilling thing is over. Now that the dam engineer has determined the dam water isn’t going anywhere, he decided to close off all the dam spillways reducing the level of dam water flowing downstream to a trickle This has all the dam fishermen hopping mad at that dam engineer and that caught the attention of the dam game warden. Now he sees fit to come racing into the dam site campground hoping to catch some dam fishermen with some illegal dam fish. The dam site camp host isn’t happy about the speeding, so he tells the dam game warden to get in his dam truck get out of here. After a bit of arguing, the dam game warden leaves without incident. After all the excitement calmed down, my wife had time to think about the possibility of the dam filling, dam water overflowing and washing us out of our dam site. Trying to explain that the fear of this happening is a bit irrational, nearly got me run off my own dam site. We are still here at dam site campground for at least two more weeks, and we are hoping that no more dam people cause any more dam problems. Once we leave, we hope to look back and laugh about the whole dam experience.

Now do you have the next stop planned or still shopping. In this part of the country, we favor the corps parks but if going across Missouri and out the bootheel, there might be one I would recommend as it used to be a really neat one with an old mill to look over as well as creekside sites.
Do a look at Alley Springs if the distance looks right. It is on a national rivers type park, so tends to get lot of canoe traffic but great last time we were there. Tends to get lots of St. Louis but usually well managed and not rowdy! Also tends to stay cool down in the valley next to the spring!

Google called it “a perennial dad joke” and there seem to be 4 or 5 other Damsite campgrounds around the country. Well done HiBanky.

It seems pretty likely that this was simply a “joke” and not an actual camping trip that requires further planning.

It is true that the style of the story was meant to be a little humororis, but these events happened exactly as I said. The only inaccuracy is that this all happened four years ago. If you don't believe me, you can ask my wife.

Most of our life is a joke, so no reason not to carry on? The ""proper"' response to many of the messages might be viewed as a joke?
Just depends on which side of the bed we get up on for any specific day!
If reading something that we each do not agree with is the worst life has dealt us, we may have slept through the whole thing!
