We are buying an 08 Ellipse from CW and they want to sell an external protection applied to the paint to protect it from the environment for 5 years for $700. They guarantee the paint not to fade or peel for five years. Has anyone purchased or have any experience with this type of application? A cover to protect the unit in storage would cost $500, maybe it would be worth it to not have to wrassle with covering it while in storage.

we have a 2007 adventurer and just use wax to protect the finish ,
we keep it ourt side 6 moths a year and it looks gredat.

Our DSDP is 10 years old now. Been kept outside it's entire life. Have not had any problems with paint.
Does CW really think the paint is that bad that you need insurance? If so why are they selling them and why are you buying it?

Just like the finish and interior "protection packages" car dealers try to sell you: snake oil!

Snake oil describes it best. Dealers call it "ADP" Additional Dealer Profit. Buyers still fall for it, that's why dealers continue to push it. Scotchgard interior protection can be purchased at Safeway for $7.95. Exterior "protection" is simply a wax job. As soon as I can hear a testimonial from one person who has actually filed a claim and and been paid by the people pushing this stuff, I may not be as skeptical.

The finish on your coach is a good quality paint job. If it looks good now and has never been repainted anywhere all you will need is a good easy on easy off liquid cleaner polish to keep the finish looking new but remember its not going to keep clean on its own. Usually the finish protectorants that dealers sell are over priced and any over the counter polish wax is just as good. But one thing to keep in mind if it unconditionally guarantees the finish to stay like new for several years it may be worth it, the Ellipses and Tours and maybe other Winne products have had a problem with the clear coat coming off or flaking on the roof area along the curve where it transitions to the sidewall front sides and rear, if the guarantee covers that stuff I may think about getting it but read the fine print usually there are many exclusions also all these prices are negotiable.

CW always tries to push for that extra$$$$. Don't fall for it. Put your money in your pocket and use it to enjoy the free camping you can do by not spending it on a $700. mistake.

Thanks, always good advice here. I guess it's like that spray on undercoating the dealers were selling on new cars back in the 70s.

I think the term "snake oil" said it all. If you really want to know what is gauranteed ask to see the contract. Most of these types of protectant gaurantees require you have either annual maintenance or inspections which add to the cost. If either aren't done by an "authorized agent" the gaurantee is probably null and void.

In addition the gaurantee is most likely only for the original purchase price. So even if you make a claim you may still be on the hook for any repairs or repainting above and beyond the original cost. Plus all the money you spent on maintenance and inspections is down the drain.

We purchased the service from our dealer when we bought our new Ellipse in 2007 and paid about the same for it. I wouldn't do it again. The coach did look new and shinny for a long time using only the dry wash "The Solution" to keep it up but I don't think it was because of what the dealer applied.

Keep your money in your pocket. Items like this are HIGH profit for the dealer.
