A member with a 2007 Winnebago Journey asked about finding a good used Coleman basement AC because the second stage was not coming on, and also asked about repairing loose vinyl ceiling material. Members suggested contacting Shelburne RV in Cleveland, Tennessee for rebuilt Coleman/Mach basement units and repair help, with one member reporting a successful revamped unit installation.

I am searching for a good used Coleman basement AC unit as mine does not kick in on the 2nd stage, (the best stage for cooling). Not sure if there are any out there, I have a 2007 Winnie journey and would be nice to have ac. Also any suggestions on how to repair my vinyl ceiling that appears to be coming loose in several areas, not sure if there are any divider strips can be un- snapped from the ceiling to try and get at the fabric or will I cause myself a bigger problem? Thanks, Mike

Try Shelburne RV in Cleveland, Tennessee. I bought and had installed a revamped Coleman/Mach basement air unit. Runs great. Call and talk to them. (423-479-3627)

First off your MH must be on 50A shore power or powered by the onboard genset. Winnebago uses a circuit to lock out #2 compressor when on 30A shore power. (assuming it has not been bypassed)
If the 120VAC breaker for the 2nd compressor is passing electricity through, test the #2 compressor relay. It's operated by 12VDC, to turn on 120VAC to the compressor.
The #2 relay is the lower of the 2, the top one is #1 compressor. To test the #2 compressor, you can switch the 120V wires from the compressors, making #1 compressor-now #2. If what was #2 compressor is bad, the unit will not operate at all.
All the heat pump versions are virtually the same, only the return air and chilled air plenums are different. This is the service manual for the 6536 model, and has an excellent troubleshooting section.

+ 1 for Shelburne RV, but as Ray said you should check your Electrical shedding indicator; you will not get the second stage unless you are on 50A power.

Would a MircoAir EasyStart on unit 2 help?
No, each compressor came with a hard-start cap. The Winnebago EMS will not allow power to #2 compressor on 30A service. The EMS can be unhooked in the electrical box, which allows both compressors to run on 30A service, but nothing else. When both compressors and fans are running you will see a 24-26A draw on the control panel. Maximum continuous draw on a 30A breaker is 28A.
