2011 Itasca Ellipse 42QD - I have 2 Interstate chassis batteries that are now 7 years old and appear to be failing to hold a charge.
I'd like tp replace them with the same batteries. I'm not able to see the battery group/ID without removing the hold down, of which I don't have tools to do. I've searched the manuals, the Winnebago website and the internet without help.
Can anyone tell me the battery group number on this battery?
Thank you in advance.

I believe they would be Group 31. That's pretty standard for Freightliner chassis.

I found this description of the chassis battery for a 2010 Ellipse:
2010 Itasca Ellipse 42AD (Freightliner Magnum Chassis, Cummins ISL 8.9 L)
Original Chassis batteries: 2 Freightliner's Alliance Parts A1131CMF
BCI Group Size 31
Terminal Type - Stud
1000 CCA @ 0°F
1190 CA @ 32°F
185 RC (Reserve Capacity)
12.75L x 6.75W x 9.5H
Maintenance Free

Joe, can you measure the length. The Group 31 are normally 13 inches and change in length as opposed to the Group 27 which are shorter. I would think they are most likely the 31. Maybe someone else will chime in. Good luck,
Travato John.

I used group 31s on my coach - purchased from a Freightliner Truck Shop at a great price w/core return. Either take an old battery to the ship or get good measurements - also note if you want side or top connections and post or screw. And - take pictures / draw diagrams / label wires before you disconnect anything!!!

Chassis Batteries

I have a 2011 Tour 42QD and just replaced the chassis batteries in Jan 2025. I went to Freightliner and purchased two of the OEM batteries.

Original Chassis batteries: 2 Freightliner's Alliance Parts AE1131XMF
BCI Group Size 31
Terminal Type - Stud
1000 CCA @ 0°F
12.75L x 6.75W x 9.5H
Maintenance Free
The price for both of the batteries was $241.96

The batteries are made by East Penn Manufacturing Company which makes both Freightliner and NAPA brand batteries.

For the Chassis batteries, Freightliner batteries were lower in price than the NAPA, but for the house deep-cycle batteries NAPA are lower in price than the Freightliner.

I replaced my chassis batteries the first time (at 5 year point, batteries were fine, I had a bad alternator it turned out) with ones in the Kenworth shop, much cheaper than anywhere else. I walked in with the specs on a piece of paper. The salesman said check the pyramid of batteries on the sales floor. He said Kenworth standardized all their big equipment with that size, and it was the only size they carried now. And they were the size I needed. They lasted about 10 years. Went with the Freightliner OEM replacements next, (more expensive, but no Kenworth shops around) they are still running strong after 9 years.

I agree, Interstate makes decent batteries. Measure the height, length, and width; those dimensions will correspond with the appropriate battery!
