Changing out the black & grey tank roof vents...

I'd like to change out the black & grey tank roof vents on my Sightseer and would like to know if the black pipe and white collar are two separate pieces. Do I simply remove all of the sealant around the collar and pull the collar up? What sealant should I use under the replacement collar for a Winnebago roof?

The new collar requires 4 screws to into the roof at an angle to hold the vent cap in place.

Yes, the black vent pipe and the white vent cap are two seperate items. Just remove all of the sealent, remove the screws in the flange and the vent cap pulls off.

I had to change out the vent cap for the grey tank and the black pipe only came up to the level of the roof. Would have felt beter about the install if the black pipe was a little longer.

It appears you may be a vistim of the same situation I was. The black pipe is simply sticking up too high. Mine was tight against the top, blocking off the vent. It was so high that the cap actually cracked a bit as it was snugged down over the pipe. Mine sealed so well it would build pressure when filling the black tank for flushing. (The pressure was relieved when I opened the toilet flusher to check how full it was. Luckily all I got blasted with was air! Quite puzzling until I figured it out.)

You're already putting the RV360 vent caps on, so it sort of doesn't matter, but interesting to see another one the same as mine was. (I cut the pipe off a bit an reinstalled the cap.)

I have started going thru all of the penetrations on my roof, removing the excess sealant and resealing the fittings with Eternabond tape. It is more expensive than using the Dichlor sealant but you only have to do it once. I have been very pleased how it forms a permanent watertight seal over all of the joints and roof fittings. If you google Eternabond you will find a site where you can buy it in 2" to 24" wide rolls (sorry, I can't remember the site name right offhand) at about half the cost of getting it at Camping World. I have been using mostly the 2" and 4" wide tape with excellent results. The site will also explaing the preparation required and installation process. I have a TPO roof and it works great.

I've done exactly the same thing. Now I don't have to think about my weak knees climbing up and down the ladder too many more times.

In fact, I've got a couple of leaky places on my house gutter seams that I'm going to Eternabond next spring. There must be 10 pounds of caulk on some of those that leak persistently!

Interesting information, I only checked the greywater vent to see what I needed to do. When I put the cap (top) back on the vent I noticed that it didn't seem like much room from the top of the black pipe to the inside bottom of the cap. The 'black' tank is where the problem is most 'noticeable', so I should visually check that vent. Maybe I don't need to replace the vents, which are in good condition, but cut down the black vent pipe a little instead. I bought both styles of the Syphon vents but would rather not use any of them.

What do you think the minimum clearance should be from the top of the pipe to the bottom of the vent cap?

"Minimum clearance"? I don't know. But I do know it's more than zero!

I cut off 1/4" or 3/8" as I recall.

Installation instructions for the Syphon 360 state that 3/4" is the minimum vent pipe height and 1 1/8" is the maximaum vent pipe height, but that's for their vent cap. Not sure what the OEM Winnebago vent cap requires.

I also have the same predicament on the gutters on my house.
I think I will do the bad spots on the gutters at the same time I do the MH side seams next spring.
Thanks for the heads up on the gutters and a great idea.

Didn't get around to installing the roof vents, but I did cut down the black vent pipe to a height of 1 1/8". (The maximum height for installation of the Syphon 360.)

Just made a round trip to Disneyland and no odor, though I can't say yet that it solved the odor problem, since I did fill and flush out the tanks with water repeatedly before driving.

If not, I'll install the new vents...

I installed the Xtreme Vent on both holding tank vent pipes by simply removing the old cap, slipping the Xtreme Vent down over the pipe and using the two screws supplied with it, screwed it onto the pipe. No cutting, removing any old caulking, changing flanges, or anything. Very simple installation and works great. the Xtreme Vent is a higher priced unit than the 360 but it also doesn't stick up as high either.
