While in winter storage thus year the ceiling on our 2009 Journey 34y has started to sag. Is there a glue or repair that can be made other than replacing the entire ceiling? Thanks for any and all help!

I had the same problem. Because of the foam backing there is no good way to reattach the material using adhesive that I know of. I opted to use ¼ x ¾ Pine window screen molding. 18 eight-foot sticks, a can of maple stain, and a can of spray-on urethane is all you need. I used a chop saw and table saw with a dado blade attachment to add precision to the cuts. To avoid exposed screw heads, I use his Pin Nailer to fasten it all to the ceiling.

Although the plan was to have a temporary repair, it came out decent.

An important word of caution!! Take note of where all the wiring is in the ceiling. Whatever fastener you use to hold the strips in place could pierce an electrical line or in my case, the rear-view camera cable. Aside from that, all is holding up just fine, even after a bumpy 15000 miles.

I used white vinyl 1/4" by 1 1/2" strips from Lowes and screwed them every 16" on center or close to it. I used 3/4" stainless screws and plastic caps that cover the screws. Looks similar to what HiBanky did only no need to stain, and no worry about shooting into wiring or anything in ceiling. 2 years and many miles and still holding

Thank you! Do you happen to have a photo? Did you screw the slats into the old headliner? Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

I can get you some pics tomorrow. I removed the old vinyl from the divider strips, there are metal strips screwed into the ceiling, I removed the metal and stapled the falling headliner back up and covered the staples with the new vinyl strips, I then screwed what Lowes calls lattice strips right on the headliner into the ceiling luan plywood.

NASCARUSS1953,

I would be interested in seeing how you ran the pieces along the walls and how they match up with the lateral ones.

This is how I did it.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but how do you remove the original strips that run across the ceiling? I'm not sure if they are metal or plastic and I don't want to damage them or the ceiling when I remove them.

Please feel free to jump in! I haven't decided how I plan to tackle this repair, all comments and suggestions are welcomed.

That's a legitimate question. They are metal strips covered with a plastic. As you can see in my photos I left both in place adding strips of wood between. I don't know for certain but, I would think the strips would come down without damaging them. NASCARUSS1953 should be able to some insight to this question.

Depends how old they are being plastic they can get brittle and break when pulling them off of the aluminum extrusion they are snapped on to.
