2008 Journey 39z. My ATS 5070 is no longer switching to generator power supply.

Are these things rebuildable?

If not, what's the go to replacement unit? I see Parallax makes a couple 50amp models but not sure what the best choice is.

Any other manufacturers I should look at?

The relays are replaceable if you find the right ones. Whether it's worth it or not is another story.

Personally, even if there are slight differences, I'd stick with Parallax since they're going to be the most similar and easiest to install.

I don't have any alternate brands to recommend but might throw in a different view to consider?
Do you really want/need an automatic transfer?
Do you have animals or other reasons to need an auto transfer if power goes out?
I feel there may be several good reasons to NOT have an ATS, if one doesn't have a driving need for one.

I've only had one larger RV and it did not have ATS, so we never questioned just doing it manually! you don't miss what you 've never had?

So in your case, would there be any situation that warrents the trouble and expense of replacing the ATS if one just added a plug in a box instead of the ATS.
I admit there are some downsides to also consider but they are nothing that drives me to want an ATS!
If the air conditioner is running full time and the power oges out so you need to switch to generator, one might have to jump outside and change the cord from shore power to the generator outlet, but is that something that happens often enough to make a difference? As Bob C mentioned, ATS do tend to be a bit of problems as well as expensive, for the small service I see, since we don't travel with dogs who might suffer if the air went out for long.

I find moving the plug from the shore plug to the onboard outlet fits for us!
But that is where all of us have different needs/wants!
Lots of different ways to do the trick!

🤔 may have to take it apart and see what's going on. Appreciate the input.

They are standard contactor relays, like in a home A/C condenser. Sometimes you get lucky and just need to remove the contactor and clean/sand the contacts. But otherwise you’d have to replace the contactors or the entire ATS.

So I ordered a Parallax 503 to replace my 5070. Went to do the swap and realized the 503 won't fit in the cramped quarters available. If Amazon is correct, the 501 is definitely smaller and I believe will work.

The Parallax website isn't terribly helpful with information. I also emailed about a week and a half ago and never got a response.

Cam anyone verify the 501 is just a different size than the 503?

Hopefully someone can measure one for you but, in the meantime, here are the dimensions for the 501 from the manual: 3.75" x 8.70" x 11.05"

These are slightly different from Amazons specs of:

3.5" x 8.75" x 11.75"

It's possible that the measurements can vary from unit to unit depending on what specific case was used at the time of manufacture.

Did you happen to take the dimensions of the 503? I need to fix or replace my 5070. The Parallax site as you say isn't very informative. Nothing on dimensions. I found 14x12x6 by searching but do not know if that's correct. I don't know if it would fit in my 2004 Adventurer. Compartment is small. The 501 is smaller from what I can see. Isn't the 501 an older model then the 503?

I sure didn't. As to older model, I didn't get that impression when I called and spoke with a tech representative at Parralax. Seems it's just a different size but has same exact function.

This is a time to go direct for the best answers when we have questions?

EDIT?
Or go with the info from Bob as it looks good , too!
