any 29r folks upgrade to golf cart house batts

Looks like I need new house batts and I was wondering if any one has replaced theirs with the 6v golf cart batts on the 29R floor plan? I measured the compartment and it looks like it would be a pretty tight fit. I am afraid the taller golf batts will be very close to the cover (entry stairs). Might be a safety hazzard. I sure don't want to chance venting them into the MH. Any advice?

If you only need a 1" or less maybe you could raise the step up for the hight you need.

Use some 1" strips around perimeter of box.
The batts that were there most have vented to the outside thru batt cable holes.

You might measure and check a few different battery brands to see if a different brand might have enough room.

I assume your setup is like mine. The coach battery takes up a lot of room, but looks like it can be moved a bit. From my measurements I have 13" of space to install a 6volt battery. The Trojan T105 has dimensions of 10 3/8" x 7 1/8" x 11 3/16" Weight 62 LBS - so it appears they will fit under my step. I am just trying to see if I can squeeze in 4 of them.

Yes, it is the same configuration, but I have a little over 11 inches under the step and I am conerned that the terminal posts might not be figured into the height. I don't want to chance shorting something out. It doesn't look like I could get more that 2 in the space, but if they would fit it would add a whole lot of amp-hours. I am going to take the MH to an Interstate Battery store not far from here and have them scope it out. The fact that NO 29R people have posted makes me a little nervous.

I found the Trojan Specs Guide which states the battery is measured from the base to the top of the terminal it lists the T105 as 10 7/8 or 276cm. I'd get covers for the top of the terminals and make sure no wires were exposed. I think the bottom of my stair platform is metal, is yours the same?

Other option is use a couple Group 27s like the Trojan 27TMH - its only 9 3/4".

We have an '04 Sightseer 27C. We replaced the one (or two, I forget) batteries under the steps with two Interstate U2200 6 volt batteries. No problema, they fit fine.

In the cargo compartment to the left of the steps, we added four more Interstate U2200's on a slideout tray and a divider, and added a Xantrex 2000 inverter/charger. Battery compartment was vented.

Somewhere on this site is a picture of a Sightseer 30B stairwell battery bay with 4 Trojans and a chassis battery. It was tight but they will fit. I will soon be upgrading to 4 Trojans and replacing the chassis battery and will try to fit them in the stairwell battery bay.

yes 2 interstate 6 volt batts will fit sorry i cant rember the mod # and you will have to make newhold downs i used brackets i found at a aouto parts store good luck

Just a quick update, I called the dealer and told them about the dead batts and that I wanted them to check out the converter to be sure there wasn't some additional problem. We left it overnight with them and they called this morning saying that it was just the house batts and that they replaced them, NO CHARGE. We bought the coach used from them, "as is - no warranty" right before Christmas. The service manager just said "it was the right thing to do". Anyone in the central Indiana area looking for MH, pm me for a great dealer to work with.
So I won't be converting to golf batts just yet, I can't cost justify it right now.

Scotter - thanks I was just curious how it all looked, I've had the dual 6v on my other setups too and figure that's probably the way I am going to go. I am pretty sure I can squeeze in 4 of the 6v I just need to remeasure everything and see about moving the starter battery over a bit.
