What is the best cleaner to use? My wheels are nasty. It seems like brake dust accumulates on the inner groove..
I assume that is normal.

I just use soap and water on mine. The manual that came with mine specifically says DO NOT POLISH.

Depends on whether you have the Dura-Bright coated wheels or not. The Dura Bright finish should not be polished - it is there to preserve the original shine and polishing can scratch or remove it. Just use soap and water, or one of the spray on wheel cleaner products available in auto departments everywhere.

Without Dura-Bright, the wheels will dull as the surface oxidizes and/or gets coated with dirt and will require occasional polishing to bring back the shine. Here is what Alcoa recommends (sells)

Use a little metal/aluminum polish in an inconspicuious area. If your cloth doesn't turn black, they're coated. BTW, it's not true that you can't polish coated wheels, you just use plastic polish, instead of metal/aluminum polish. Robbie

Dura Brite wheels should have a black sticker that says Dura Brite. The part number stamped on the wheel should also end in "DB."

I'll add Alcoa Dura-Brights are not coated and I'll quote Alcoa below.

"Alcoa Dura-Bright® is a surface treatment not a coating, it won’t chip, crack, peel or corrode. And never needs polishing. No other manufacturer can offer you that."

"You can’t say that about coated wheels, which scratch, filiform corrode and discolor in commercial applications. Only Dura-Bright® wheels use a patented surface treatment that penetrates the aluminum and becomes an integral part of the wheel."

We use Mothers Aluminum and Mag polish on ours and it works great. Takes about an hour to do all four and gets real messy. I use paper towels to apply the polish.
