Air bed replacement in 2011 Ellipse 42’

We have a 2011 Winnebago ellipse 42’. Has anyone replaced the two section king size air mattress with a standard household mattress. We keep having issues with ours staying inflated and thinking of replacement. If anyone has done this manufacture did you use? To bring in bedroom slide we have to raise the back of the bed so mattress must be able to be bent and stored that way as well as lay flat. Any help would get appreciated

We pulled out our "I-Deal Rest" RV King mattress 4 years ago. One of the controller's wires got pinched once and one whole side of the mattress was unable to work. I fixed it easily (the cable is a simple Ethernet cable) but decided I didn't want a bed that needed electricity to work.

First, your bed is a custom sized RV King. 2" narrower than a standard King and 2" shorter, too.

It's easy to have a custom mattress made to fit the space - check out www.brooklynbedding.com or https://www.mattressinsider.com/rv-mattress.html - but we went with a stock California King foam mattress from an online seller (www.leesa.com).

The Cali King is the right width, but still 2" too long. So, I removed the kind of ugly headboard held on with 4 small screws and that provided plenty of room for the Cali King.

Everyone worries about the bed tilt and if you ask someone at an online mattress store they say, "Gee, I don't know if our mattress will work." But ours works great and that's after 4-years. The I-Deal Rest was 10" thick, so I did make sure to buy a mattress that same thickness.

My old I-Deal Rest is in the attic gathering dust. And, we don't miss it at all.

Ours is headed out the door sometime this spring. We are going to be modifying the bed platform to get down to a queen-sized mattress. Right now the Mattress Insiders are leading the list based on reviews and research. Supposedly you can still get repair parts for the Ideal Rest from the factory in Colorado, however I am not prone to mess with things as temperamental as the Ideal Rest appears to be.

We used Mattress Insider - with good measurements they 'hinged' the bed so that raising it causes no issues at all. Had it made in extra firm with radius corners - added an after-market bed topper. Worked out very well...

Just ordered a new hybrid mattress from Engineered Sleep. They manufacture a 72"x80"x10" mattress, and they will round a 10" radius at the foot of the bed. You can get it in Latex or a Gel with 2 different tops. They seem like really great people to work with and their return policy is 90 night. I talked with Davis and Ryan over there, very helpful. They have all the specs for a 42QD mattress. Price is a approx. $750 with a discount code. I'm hoping this will be comfortable and should work with the bed lift. The specs on the Lippert bed lift state that max capacity is 800 lbs. BTW-I do like the other ideas above, if you remove the foam pad at the head of the bed, a Cal King should fit well. I just went with the 72"x80" size since that's the current size of the Ideal Rest mattress.
