WARNING!! This modification eliminates the (Ignition ON) cutout and the wind sensor. The only overload protection will only be the main awning breaker. If this makes you nervous, don't make this modification !
The older AE WeatherPro Power Awnings are prone to a myriad of failure points and I for one have given up on fighting them. The first thing to go is usually the wind sensor and most just disable it and go on. The relays on the Control Board can fail and, in my case, the current overload feature on the circuit board would intermittently activate during retraction. The Control Box has a complex circuit and is expensive to replace if you can find one. Out of frustration and desperation I went for a simple no frills solution in the hope of putting an end these problems.
Two off-the-shelf motor control relay boxes and a hand full of connectors will replace the circuit board and with little effort. All of the safety features will be eliminated along with the remote control. Both the Patio and the Door awnings will now be controlled by only the existing remote switches on the wall. Surprisingly, the existing wiring can be used with no change to the connections on the switches. The total cost is ~$40. If you are interested, I can provide a parts list and a wire diagram.
Both awnings are now operating perfectly. Even better than with the OEM control board. They move smoothly and stop instantly.
Admittedly the wiring in the photo is a rat's nest. My intention is to go back later and add a terminal block to clean that up.
