Adventurer 38G Large Slide Drops Suddenly When Opening

Hi y'all just found this group and glad to know y'all are here ! We have 2002-3 Adventurer 38G My large slide (kitchen table and LR couch) used to open smoothly, it has 2 hydraulically driven screws that pull it open and closed. the slide rides up and above the kitchen floor and when it opens it used to just smoothly magically lower itself down and into position to have the sliding surface and the static surface match up. But recently that open-up operation has become seemingly dangerous. when the slide is approx 2/3 open it suddenly bangs downward - jumps down with a bag and a thud - slams itself downward with what I feel is enough force to break "something". I have only allowed this to happen 3 or 4 times (first 2 I didn't know it was a "thing"... when not staying for at least a week I keep it closed rather than risk damage. We are now settled in for the summer and I am planning to have an RV repair shop give me an estimate. Has anyone else had this problem? know what causes it? had it professionally repaired? -- at what cost ????

It would seem you have a hydraulic slide but the screws you are seeing might be adjusting threads? HWH made them. There were several different types, and the fact that yours drops to be level indicate the type it is. Many have mentioned in here about plastic pieces that facilitate the lift and drop of the floor. Maybe one of them will jump in, or do a search for the fix. I believe it is not for the faint of heart.

Some of these are older, just simple lists and line drawings, while newer are often more interactive and can be more help at times but not without complaints! Your RV falls into the line drawing type. Sort down through to get to your specific RV with the options it may have?

I think you may want to drop to "exterior slide group? That should give you parts drawings for the various pieces used to move the slide. Sounds like one of the pieces the slide should move on have broken or fallen out of place? Maybe that part can make more sense to you if you can compare drawings to actual RV? But it may mean the slide has to be taken out to replace some support item?
At that point, I'm likely to move it to a shop to fix? But you may be more able to spot something you can fix when being able to see what they put in there?

mechanism. This is a complicated repair. Contact HWH Customer
Service before attempting to make this repair."
We did have a member who worked for HWH.

The labor for these repairs can be daunting and the HWH replacement parts costs are impressive. Immediately stop using the slide. It the trouble is minor now, you can readily make the problem a lot worse. Kevin Caudill
