This AI-generated summary may contain inaccuracies. Please refer to the full thread for complete details.
A member reported ABS and ESP warnings appearing about 20 minutes after installing two 100Ah LiFePO4 batteries in a 2015 Itasca Navion without a DC-to-DC converter, while noting no drivability change. Members suggested the warnings may be coincidental and related to common Sprinter wheel speed sensor issues, since ESP relies on those sensors, though temporary contamination from water or mud was also mentioned.

Several members noted that ABS or ESP faults may not affect normal driving much...

about 20 minutes after installng 2 LiFePo 100 AH batteries in my 2015 Itasca-Navion (under coach step, no Dc - DC converter), I'm getting the ABS and ERB warning display. There is no effect on drivability, etc. What have I done, assuming this is related.??

I assume you are getting this warning while driving after you installed the new batteries? If that’s the case I would say the two things are simply a coincidence.

Vehicle wheel speed sensors failures are all too common on older Sprinters. And the ESP system relies on wheel speed sensors so I don’t think it’s unusual for the two warnings to go hand in hand. Unfortunately, these can be “Mercedes-priced” items. Also, it can be a temporary thing if you’ve driven through high water/mud. Cross your fingers.

Kind of like if it rains 20-min after you installed new batteries… no relation.

My understanding is that the DC-DC converter is required to keep the LiFePo batteries from running wild with your alternator, the batteries will act like an almost dead short if the are in look of amperage.

ABS sensor failures have little effect on driveability unless you are in a panic stop or lose traction in rain or snow. ABS prevents brake lockup, which is difficult to happen in a large RV. ABS wasn't mandatory on vehicles until September of 2011 . (Effectively 2012 vehicles.)

Unless you want to use Cruise Control. Mercedes will lock out Cruise with an ESP dash light showing. No telling what else Mercedes links to the vehicle speed sensor, as well.

It's true that the DC-DC charger protects the alternator (and also boosts the charging voltage), but the "dead short" stuff is nonsense, as the charging rate is controlled by the battery's BMS. With just a pair of 100Ah batteries, a DC-DC charger isn't necessary.
