Cannot get iPhone connected by usb cable to use car play and have access to various apps on my iPhone. Tried several ports in vehicle as well as several cables. When I push on icon that says connect phone, it basically asks if I want to connect via usb cable but then there is no way to say yes or ok and nothing happens.
It seems to connect via Bluetooth but all that does is allow my phone to work and access my contacts, but no access to any apps on phone. Any thoughts?

I think we may find we have wandered off into a tech nightmare where there are no directions or if we do happen on some, they do not fit what we have!
I have been trying to get Android auto to work with my car, without much success. Taking the car in, they tried but came back with the idea that it was a phone problem. Took it to ISP and they worked for 40 minutes and came back with the idea that it was a car problem!
I let an I-phone user drive and they connected their I-phone and I could see some value in the driving directions when in construction zones. So I tried to connect my android phone again and it worked fine except I had music instead of spoken driving directions.

In total frustration, I yelled, "turn off the damned music" !
And it did!

Maybe look for some point on the dash ( speedometer?) display as well as the screen to the side? Stumbling around, I found an Android setting there which none of the other folks have ever looked to for setup?

As far as I can tell, we have no control over our lives any more.
Just yell at it until something changes!

I got it to work!!!! Used the correct USB port, my 68 year old brain is on life support, hehe. Normally I’ll find a 2nd or 3rd grader to fix my phone problems, none around today

AW, yes! Know the feeling!
But then on the other hand, is there any reason we should know there is a difference in these ports if there are no directions and they all look the same? Sounds like you have run into the difference in a charge port and a "real" USB connection?
My granddaughter has to leave a cord plugged into a back seat port as the one on her dash is charging only!

To find that small point, they had a "committee" of techie teens all trying to set it up and all in the front had failed so the back seat group who used a different port found it worked there!

To be fair to Mercedes (kinda) the correct port in center dash compartment DOES have an icon for CarPlay...but you do have to be able to break the code.

It's all that "insider" info that most of us are missing. I nearly died trying to find the "hamburger file" on something I was looking over.
Isn't it kind of scary that we may have a red button on a desk somewhere And it's not labeled?
Does it mean kill the guy who brought you the wrong soda or does it do something else? I guess they just have to try it to see what it does?

The manual is the secret decoder ring given to the insiders....
