We have a 2018 Navion that's at Car Toys now. They installed a Kenwood DNR1008RVS and are now telling me that there is no back up camera or steering wheel controls.
There must be a fix for this. Any advise would be much appreciated.

Dave,
It's been a while since our old Riverpark unit was replaced AND the Kenwood model number you are installing is not the same as ours. I seem to recall the installer had to access the MB canbus on the passenger side, below the glove box (?). Really not positive.
We've had no issues since the install (no camera audio as I mentioned).
Hope this helps. Regards, Mike

Thank you Mike. In speaking with Car Toys yesterday it's my understanding that this Kenwood does not support the OEM camera.
Were you able to keep and use your steering wheel controls and if s do you recall how that was achieved?
Thank you for the feedback,
Dave

Dave,
My best guess would be that getting the camera to work on my new Kenwood was as easy as plug n play (maybe with an adapter?) and that the steering wheel controls were part of the work on the MB canbus.
I remember being very pleased that the buttons on the wheel worked again. Sorry that I don't remember more. Mother Benz is very persnickity about any non-Benz items added to the chassis...
If I recall correctly, Mercedes changed several chassis things in the 2018 model year.
Again, ours is a 2016 View on a late 2015 chassis.
Regards, Mike

You might try calling Crutchfield. They could possibly know of a model that will work with your cams and controls.

I installed a Kenwood DMX706S in my 16 J using the OE camera. The steering wheel controls were fixed by adding Axxess steering module for about $70 after the Winnebago recall of their module.
Everything working perfectly. Very simple R&R and Crutchfield has great support if you need it.

I'm trying to do the same thing. Do you still have the RV? Any chance you know how they connected it, or have any photos? Thanks!

Absolutely ridiculous! but I’m not really surprised. I’ve owned a repair shop for nearly 50 years and have seen more than my share of short cut and shoddy work from “stereo install shops”
I highly recommend dealing with Crutchfield tech support or the manufacturer of your unit, it’s not rocket science!

I have Wbo View 2018-J(2017 3500XD). I installed the Alpine ILX f259 w/CarPlay and steering wheel control kit. I had to run a separate cable for new backup camera.
