2017 Spirit 25B

Just put down deposit on the second Winnebago in the family (first was childhood camper). Getting a 2017 Spirit 25B with neat interior remodel done by former owner. Upgraded from a Roadtrek Ranger. Full retirement is a few years away, but look forward to short local trips with pets and lurking here to learn the ropes of our roomier rig.

Welcome to the group. We just upgraded from 2 Travatos to a 22M. This forum has been a huge help to us over the years.

Hi Raxel7851. I looked up the 22M, nice coach. How long have you had it?
I already know why we switched from a B to a C but remain curious about others' take on why they made the move (obvious tradeoffs in nimbleness vs. interior room, both coveted). Your thoughts? (We have not been able to drive our C around yet but rented a C before buying the van; expect I'll be pricing Sumo springs soon--if those are even an option on a C).

We had 2 Travatos over a period of 4 years. We originally bought them as traveling vehicles, with the occasional short camping trips. Then when Covid hit, we used them more for camping and not using public rest areas. As that occurred, we knew we needed more space. We’re not big Mercedes fans, so that’s why we chose the 22M. We wanted the slide out in the bedroom. We know we’ll take a hit on fuel mileage and the ability to park in downtown areas, but the 22M is approximately 3’ longer than the Travato and close in length to the Era. I’m sure some will disagree, but from our experience the class B can be lived From, but not In. We will be picking up our unit Wednesday.

How is the new 22M working out?
We picked up our 2017 Spirit 25B Monday night (private seller, who is also going to be our one-street-away neighbor later this year). The tank heating pad fell off the next day; adhesive released--any tips on regluing those? (Guess I need to figure out how to ask the group at large.) No tank heat is not a big deal for us in Florida but don't want it dragging down the highway on first trip (Disney's Fort Wilderness for the shakedown, 'bout an hour drive. First, we have a few pet-friendly interior mods to make in the next few weeks.)

Fort Wilderness? I’m so jealous Winniecats. We were there last September in our Class B and can’t wait for this September when we’ll be there in our 22M. We don’t really need those heating pads since we winterize in November. I need to hit up Mr. Eagle to see what he uses to lubricate the Gray and Black water cables and valves. Dang that’s a bad design. It goes across the entire width of the Coach.

I lubricate the sewer valve cables with Tri-Flow.
Lubricate the cables near the tank when the valves are closed.
Lubricate the cables near the control handles when the valves are open.
Do not breath this stuff. If you cannot hold your breath, then use an organic respirator.

Is that a dry lubricant Eagle? How about the little “piston” that attaches to the valve gate? Does that get a shot?

The 25B is a neat floorplan...very few RVs that size have a full time rear bed, bed over cab, sofa, and dinette. We looked at the 25B and 31D (2017) and bought a new 31D. Even with the bigger RV, we have no trouble parking or getting into sites. Even with smaller campsites or parking areas, you simply back in and the rear hangs over the end of the site. Enjoy! (Could not travel in a smaller Class B, not enough elbow room).

It is a wet lubricant; basically WD-40 with Teflon. Yes, lube the piston and try to get the stuff into the cable sheath as well.

We had 2 Class B Travatos. Although we had a lot of fun with them, as we grew a little older, we needed more “elbow” room. As most of us know the Class B world is just ridiculously overpriced. But they are in demand so hence the price goes up. I’m sure we’ll enjoy our 22M. It’s the perfect size for the 2 of us. There was a 31 model sitting next to ours on the dealer lot. It was GORGEOUS, but a little more than we needed.

Over the years we downsized from a 38' fiver, to a 34' Super C, to a 2016 MW 25B. We love not having slides, auto steps, and auto levelers. Go to Harbor Freight and purchase a trash picker stick. They run about $5.00 and are a lifesaver when making the corner bed and the over cab bed.

(first time doing the quote thing right, unsure yet if doing it right) Fort Wilderness offers great glamping! We intend to hit more rugged spots later but since we have not had a vacation in two years, it's perfect and I am really looking forward to enjoying it in our custom rolling hotel room--as TJFogelberg said, it's awesome to have a couch, dinette and two beds in an RV that size (like Raxel7851, we are coming from a class B experience). For our needs, like gurroz, we dig not having slides and auto steps." (Not sure about the levelers.) We also do not need the heating pad at all, but will try to re-attach it for resale.

I was at Lowe’s yesterday and saw WD-40 with silicone. Do you think that would work OK Eagle?

I do not believe it would work as well. Roy Robinson (my RV Dealer) recommends Tri-Flow.
