The Pioneer am/fm radio was working until the am reception just went to static. The fm still works fine. I assume that the am and fm have separate antennas. I went and unscrewed the antenna from the roof and found the rubber part had multiple cracks and I can see the antenna looks rusted underneath the rubber. Could this be the cause? Has this happened to anyone? Can just the rubber coated antenna be purchased?

Yes, you can buy just the mast but that may not cure the problem.
