Hello all:

i suspect my RV has a bad fuel pump. I thought I had a F53 chassis manual but I cannot find it. Can someone confirm that this model came with one and or how I can get one. I want to make sure the pump is bad before I drop the 80 gal tank! Research I've done says the inertia switch was eleminated in 2008. Can someone confirm this? Have also heard about the possibility of a "controller" for the fuel pump. Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated! I ordered a maunual om CD and hope it will aswer my questions.

Thanks,

Pete

Hi Pete,
I checked here on the forum, and we haven't had many threads on this subject. I do not know the answers to your questions, so hopefully your manual will help you out.

  1. Do you have an error code that points to the fuel pump?
  2. Have you changed the fuel filter?

It's a gas engine so I believe it's required to have an accident shutoff device, inertial switch, for the gas pump. Check that if you have one, make sure it wasn't triggered somehow, and the associated wiring. You may need drawings from the chassis manufacturer to find it, or find if it came without, but it'll be in the wires going to the tank.

Also note that you can buy external fuel pumps that eliminate the need to drop the tank.

Fuel Pumps...

On my 2017 Winne 29VE on F53 chassis the fuel pump driver module is in the inside of the right side frame rail just in front of the right rear tires. It's a rectangular black box with one multi-wire connector.

They're apparently a pretty popular item in the Ford world. The part is on Rock Auto for $17.91, a Standard Motor Products RY1712. You can unplug the existing module without dismounting it from the frame rail and plug the new one in to see if that's the problem.

I carry a spare one in my on-board tool box. It's a lot easier to change than a fuel pump.
