This AI-generated summary may contain inaccuracies. Please refer to the full thread for complete details.
A member with a 2011 Winnebago Vista reported that the dash camera screen goes blank when the side cameras are set to the correct view, but shows video when settings are reversed, with the image backwards. The backup camera and microphone still work, while the dealer suggested replacing the entire dash console.

Members generally felt a full dash console replacement sounded premature and suggested checking for a simpler wiring, cable, or video switching issue first. Several recommended using...

Hello! My dash camera screen goes blank when set to the correct view (e.g., right camera showing right traffic). However, if I reverse the settings, the video feed appears but the image is completely backwards. My backup camera and microphone work fine. The dealership suggests replacing the entire dash console. Has anyone else experienced this, or is there a simpler fix?

Getting good service seems to be very difficult and my thinking/experience may be way too old!
They may be correct---or not!
What I am used to seeing is the monitor has cables from each camera, left, right, and rear. My first thought might be to take the RV to a different type shop that deals in this type system, not RV specific. Somebody who deals in fixing automotive camera systems and radio?
If I understand what you are saying, it would seem to fit that the left and right cables may be reversed and one left off totally? You get no results from the one left off and get the wrong side when looking at the one you do get a picture?
Until a short time back, we had a very good interactive parts drawing setup online and we could get a really good look at things like the back of the monitor on the dash. But now that system has been replaced with one which is junk and missing vital parts of many of the systems. So bad that it is of little value at this point.
Thinking I could check for details, I found the info on the monitor to be totally useless and certainly found some info that might indicate the folks who built this new system are not the sharpest crayon in the box??

Is there no value in having work checked before putting it out to the public?

Sorry, no longer able to give good info here but I might suggest first checking with folks who do radio/monitor installs full time to ask if cables are a likely problem. Possibly a few phone calls could get a better idea than what I have?

That makes TOTAL sense! Thanks! Will try that first. Appreciate the advice!

I try to go slow when making decsions that cost me time and money, so I look around.
A different thought that may help---if it works?
If there is some type label to show what brand and model of monitor/display you have, I'm finding good value in asking some of the AI system for basic info as it seems to come back fast, even if not fully trustworthy at times!
Sometimes it has come back quoting what we have said/discusssed here on the forum and I'm not quite ready to be quoted as an expert!
But it might give you some clues if you can find the brand and possibly model to ask who might work on them or owners or installation manuals?
Something like a drawing that shows you need to connect three different sets of wires from three camers would lend some support to my guessing?

The dealership suggests replacing the entire dash console.
My guess is the dealer has a payment due on his vacation cottage and that's why he's suggesting this absolutely ridiculous repair.

First thing to do is never visit that dealer again for anything. That's step one.

Next, Richard may be correct that taking the RV to a Car Audio retailer/repair shop may be a good step. I'm not totally familiar with 2011 Vista's infotainment and camera setup but generally the camera's are all plugged into a video combiner box behind the radio/monitor system. This also has connections to your RV's gear selector and turn signal to activate the various cameras as you select reverse and left/right turns.

It's not very sophisticated nor expensive but it really determines what shows and when.

Car Audio shops deal with car camera and infotainment systems all the time and many times are the best choice for troubleshooting and repairing issues with your cameras and video monitor.

Glad to see some backup on what I thought I had seen in the older interactive parts drawings that we've now lost!
Since the extra box and operation you describe is more logicla from a design standpoint, having the camera selector off the basic radio would seem to make the options better suited to use in more RV than if those options were only in the monitor unit.
That would ease the parts issues when wanting to install the monitor in RV that had different levels of cameras. some with only backup take less equipment than others doing the sdies as well.

One big thing about the new parts catalog is how diffficult and awkward it is to get the info. And when I can finally get to what I want, it is often very crude and not usable for looking at details.
But even more confusing is what and why some things are much more workable and totally missing on other RV??
I chose a 25 Adventurer at random to see what it might show for the video switch that lets the driver see the view from different cameras. We are just assuming there is one on the OP's RV but I can't find it, so thought to verify it on other RV.
I get this view for overall location of the switch:
switch loc.jpg

The parts list verified that there IS one and might give a tech a good idea of where to look for any loose plugs! Down under the dash as a place to start!

And we get a much more detailed, much more helpfull idea of what we might find!
I think I can see two four pin plugs for each side, flanking the 6 pin plug for rear camera at the right side of this view? Then I could imagine four places to tie down things like battery and ground at the left side? Perhaps two RJ19 plugs for controls on the near side?
This would give me hope that there is something similiar on the op's RV but the view I get from the new parts system is so totally different, that I have big questions about how the two ever fit into the new parts system.
One we get junk, while the other could be a big help!

Thanks so much!!

I'm thinking/hoping that the builders were thinking ahead enough to use a stand alone item to do the switching and that is very likely to be much cheaper to replace or possibly just get the cables plugged into the right holes on that switch?
Wish you luck and let us know what they find?

The dash is packed with wires lots of pinch points one observation is the screws into dash are hidden to an extent
I.e the screws are sideways in the dash and black in color so if it won’t come out feel around the edges of the sides

Removed. Lot of screws that only held things the vents in place only to find that’s all they did 😅
