Does anyone know size (amps) of stock alternator on 2008 View. Nothing in my manuals/paperwork, no placards I can find, and difficult to read (with a mirror) on existing alternator. It is a Valeo, which was the OEM for that year. Thanks

How much trust in the AI system? I'm getting some answers to things that seem to be correct and get this as baseline from Copilot!!!

The answer gave lots more details if wanting to check there but this is as much as I could get on one snip!

Thank you. I can see that mine is Valeo, but the tag is placed in such a way that I can only use a mirror to see, which of course gives a mirror image. I do believe it is a 180 amp as indicated by AI and others on this site. AS always, I appreciate the help from this forum.-

There are sites where you can enter your VIN and retrieve your data card information for free. I used LastVIN.com.

Below are a couple snips from my 3 page report. The second snip shows code M46 which decodes to a 220 amp alternator.

The actual data card is also available in the EPC (electronic parts catalog) from the dealer but it will only show the codes, not a description of what each code means.

I have confirmed that the OEM alternator is 180 amp. Also found a warning note from Valeo supplier as follows:
IMPORTANT: Unlike the earlier model Sprinters, it is not possible to upgrade the 2007 and later NCV3 models to a higher output alternator. The voltage regulator in these units is hard-wired with a Local Interface Network or LIN code in the engine control unit. Therefore, do not attempt to retrofit a 180 Amp unit to a 220 Amp unit or vice versa.

There are dual alternator kits available for the OM642 if you are planning a large Li bank.
