About 6 years ago we bought a used 2006/7 Winnebago View H. It has a Mercedes diesel engine with some Dodge parts, called a Sprinter. We had hoped to go up to Alaska. Then the pandemic hit, so we never made it. We had a few years of great adventures. But about 2 1/2 years ago, we started having health issues. So the RV just sat. We’ve decided we need to sell it because our health issues have gotten worse. When we finally drove it, it didn’t run right. It wouldn’t go over about 40 miles on the straight away, and it struggled with the slightest incline. We had it towed to a local mechanic who works on diesel engines. He diagnosed the problem as the EGR. He told us the part would cost about $2000. But then he found out the part is no longer available from Dodge, and he hasn’t been able to find one online. Can anybody give me any suggestions? We need to sell it, but we can’t sell it if it isn’t running right. We have to move out of the area we are living in by this spring, so we are anxious to get the problem resolved. Any and all help will be much appreciated.

We also have a 2006/07 View / Sprinter with a Mercedes 2.7L diesel engine. We had symptoms very similar to yours last summer. It turned out to be the fuel rail pressure sensor. It is an easily accessed part and shouldn't take more than 15 minutes to replace. I found the part on line for between $50 to $300. Unfortunately, we were on the road at the time so it was a major expense. If you find a mechanic with the correct analyzer he should be able to diagnose this. Or what I would suggest is get one of the moderately priced ones and put it in yourself if you are so inclined. Certainly worth trying before you spend a lot of money. You Tube has videos that show you what to do.

We once had a 2006 View, bought it brand new in August of 2005 … keep in mind that the only thing on that vintage Sprinter produced by Dodge was the grill badge and the steering wheel emblem.

The chassis unit is and was produced by Mercedes. Chrysler was owned by Mercedes back then, hence the badging. The “motorhome box,” of course, was made by Winnebago.

For whatever that’s worth … hope it helps. Good luck. :thumb:

If your chassis is a 2006 it will be a T1N. I suggest you register over at Sprintersource and put your questions in the T1N section, there are literally hundreds if not thousands of Sprinter owners there from do it your selfers to professional Sprinter mechanics who gladly share their knowledge and advice. You may even find a buyer there, the 2006 T1N is considered by many to be the best Sprinter chassis ever made. And SeeThe USA is right, everything on your chassis is Mercedes, it's just got a Dodge brand on it as they were in partnership at the time but all Dodge did was some assembly of the imported knock down chassis.

PS: A quick Google shows nearly a dozen choices for a 2006 Sprinter EGR valve for just a few hundred dollars. Ask the guys and gals on Sprintersource which ones are preferred/proven. Seems Pierburg, who is a supplier to Mercedes, is a good choice, here's one at IDParts https://www.idparts.com/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=egr+valve&Submit=

You might look into finding an actual Mercedes/Sprinter mechanic as well. There's a database of recommended ones throughout the country at Sprintersource as well.

Thanks for all the replies. It appears I need to have a difficult discussion with the mechanic.

Thanks,

After 2.5 years of sitting, I'd bet your diesel fuel has gone bad. I'd add diesel additive (sta-bil or the the sort) and fill up your tank and then drive it to see if gets better.
