Hello everyone. Last year we purchased a 2005 Winnebago Itasca Sunrise F31W on the workhorse chassis with the 8.1L big block (Yay) from a seller outside of LA, in the desert. We previously had been travelling in a 1993 converted school bus, but we needed some more room. My wife, dog and I drove to the California from Louisiana, picked up the RV and towed the truck back home where the adventure started.

The inside was almost completely gutted. We wanted this. However, what I didn't know was that the previous owners, who I do not know since this thing was auctioned off as an insurance total loss, did some very strange things indeed. All inside electrical devices were removed and all of the wires were cut. I mean all. Not a single light, if any where even left, worked. Hah. They also cut random plumbing lines, and ran PEX to the front bumper for some reason unknown with spigots on them. Random pipes around the water heater and the compartment in the back were just cut, left open, some reworked...who knows.

I spent a few months installing new lights and wiring up the slideouts and other random things. I removed the battery bank and installed it in here in one of the compartmens next to the stairs. I installed circuit breaker panels, set up the inverter and got both AC and DC curcits working. There's plenty left to do like tank sensors and stuff like that they aren't hooked up yet. I have a solar install planned.

Electrical system has custom switches where I can switch the AC appliances to use shore/generator power, or solar power by toggling the switch in one position, or the other. I wanted to do this in the bus, so I designed it into the new system since I had to rebuilt it from scratch. The idea is that if I want, I can run the AC, microwave, or fridge in AC mode from a large battery bank and inverter system.

I replaced the AC with a roof top inverter/rectifier Furrion Chill Cube. That was interesting getting the old one off of the roof and the new one hoisted up.

I have installed computers and amateur radio equipment with dedicated antennas on the roof. I have two permanently mounted Parsec Belgian shepard antenna units with an aluminum ground plane. I cut holes in the roof to run the coax into a custom Raspberry Pi 4b multihomed router for internet and wifi access point, as well as ethernet network.

At this stage, my wife has started building furniture on the inside. We have two desks for us as we travel and work. The kitchen is mostly intact. Fridge works.

We need to redo the bedroom completely. I have a generator that I'm going to install after I just did an overhaul on it. I need to completely fix the plumbing!

So that's my story.

Sounds like a ton of work!
Glad you have the time to do this. Would be very interested in pictures as you continue your build.
Good Luck! Bill

Welcome the the RV side of things, I'm sure you found all the Winnebago diagrams. That is, you must have to pull off what you have done so far! I'm sure you have some interesting stories and pictures.

As a 31' model owner of that vintage, I'm pulling for you.

It has been! We've taken some before and after photos. I need to organize them into an album and post them here. I'll definitely get to that soon.

You also have the same model? This is "IFF31W" 2005 year model according to the door plate.

When you have a minute, can you take a picture of the compartment where the water pump is that shows the pex tubing and those press on/screw fittings? So much of that is cut and I can't make heads or tails of how it's supposed to go. I can't find a plumbing diagram that shows the pipes on the left side of the water heater where the pump is.

I have an '04 31Y, so close, but not the same. I'll have to review some diagrams, see how similar yours is supposed to be to mine. Mine may or may not be a good reference.

Ah, OK. I made a separate thread. Maybe somebody might be able to take a picture. At some point I am just going to start experimenting. My last project involved running all of the plumbing completely from scratch, so I'm not intimatated by this one by any stretch.

From my long ago run at looking as insurance salvage, I learned to not trust it without looking!
One of the things I found was the RV that was declared totaled was often stripped of any useable part like the pumps and resale items, then it went to auction!
I came around to finding individual parts to add back were so much more expensive, I could shop for RV that were somewhat rundown and needing repair for a better result than those which were totaled by definition!
Before putting it on the road, do a take a careful look at the wheel and master brake cylinders as that can be a hidden problem. When brake fluid sets it is true that it actually draws water. hygroscopic?
When that water then sets in place like the wheel cylinders, it rusts the shiny surfaces inside.
After a few hundred miles, the cylinders may all have to be replaced!

Things that were almost way out of order to replace were frozen holding tanks!
I learned to just keep shopping if it had bad tanks!

Sorry for the delay. A 30W has the water tank in a different location than my 31Y so pictures of mine won't help. Bummer the plumbing diagrams don't show a better angle. Winnebago might have some addition drawings. I have emailed and gotten stuff like that before.

I don't have 2005 information handy, but Winnebago built 208 30W units (Winnebago and Itasca). They built about 12,000 Class A's in 2004, so less than 2% were 30W's. May not find anyone online that has one. I know in all my travels I've only seen a couple of the other 31Ys out there, and just 1 or 2 folks online with them. (Winnebago only made 59 2004 31Y's though.)

Wow who knew I had such a rare model. Hah.

I've gone through all of the documents I can find on their library online, but I think I am going to attempt to call them to see if that actually helps.

Thanks for taking the time to look.
