Wondering how yall feel about this "rule". That is 200 miles 2 hour 2 days. We have been travelling to destinations 3 to 5000 miles away. So to maximize time where we want to see we "hoof it". That is 600 miles a day on average. 8 AM To 6PM or so. No night driving. We do not typically exceed 65 mph. This would be 90 percent "good road interstate driving" I am blessed with a wife that can drive as good as me. Any other road warriors like us out there?

I have no idea exactly what you are looking for with your question? Could you please be be more clear?

It seems that you don't drive "2-2-2" at all, but you want to know if others do? I typically see, 3-3 discussed. no more than 300 miles a day and arrive by 3pm.. It's not possible to go 200 miles in 2 hours in an RV and it would be difficult to do this in a fast car - you'd have to average 100 miles per hour.

We do the three/three thing, We go between 200-300 miles a day and we try to arrive by 2pm each day. We just finished a 3200 mile trip and to go 1,400 miles one way we traveled for 7-days. Our longest day was 302 miles and our shortest was 188 miles. Most days were 220 or less and in every case we arrived in time for a 2pm lunch. Our main motivation is the generally bad roads and the rough ride in our gas motorhome.

I can't even imagine setting any rules for myself that would not be broken every time the situation changed!
If I'm going to a funeral and it its two days from now, I will drive far different than if I'm just driving because I don't want to stay home!
Very much depends on what we each like. I had a brother who never liked to leave at the same time as us when we went to events "together" as he didn't like to waste all that time setting around campgrounds!
He just had a different idea of what was worth his time.
He wound up semi-famous for going from the middle of the country to Florida and back in a week!
Said there was not much there to ever go back!
Some of us are on the trip to see things while others are there for the drive, apparently?
With those rules, I couldn't even get out of state around here!

Sounds like you need different friends if they are trying to set those rules! ;)

Yes we drive long distances like truckers then maximum our stay times in Alaska Yukon Montana and Northern Cali as examples. The friends I speak of are my wife and 81 year old father in law. Just inquiring if there were others like us.

With 2 drivers and a comfortable coach like that I can see it. Unfortunately for me my wife won't drive the coach so 300-350 is about it for me in the MH and maybe 450 in my truck when I can go 79 instead of 63-65.

In my younger days I could drive much longer and I'll never forget the time I drove from Tucson to Houston in one shot in a pickup with cab over camper, drinking Mountain Dew the whole way. It was not a smart decision but I made it.

My fun times were when my group of wild young goofballs drove from North of Ely, Minnesota to Fort Myers, Fl. without stops other than for gas and fast food! We traded drivers and others slept in floors or wherever they didn't get stepped on!
Maybe that is why I feel so damn old most days?

For me this is an each to their own. If you want to and can drive that way go for it! I am in the 4 hour group of drivers. I like to sit back and enjoy the scenery, stop early to enjoy the life that RVing brings. I am sorry but to me that driving plan makes no sense.

Side note
Richard I can see why leaving Ely MN would be a priority. Ending up our month in Two Harbors visited the great town of Ely. Great place to visit, great things to see and do!

I worked in industrial construction for the past 30 years. Quite a bit of it was as part of various rapid response teams. It wasn't out of the question for us to receive a call and be on the road within a couple of hours. With team driving, we would quite often cover 1200 miles in less than 24 hours with a fully rigged-out service truck. Up until a few years ago, a 750-mile solo day wasn't a problem.

Now I take it easy. Currently, we are only going on a couple of shorter trips a year. We do an annual trip to Pigeon Forge for my MIL to attend a conference. That is a 370-mile drive for us, and that is pushing it. We prefer to keep it down to around 4-6 hours of driving; mileage will fluctuate depending on where we are traveling. If we have to pull a long day, we will stay put for at least a day before pulling out again. We will only drive for 2 days back-to-back. Then take at least a single rest day.

Everyone is different, choose what works for you.

My bride can drive, but prefers not to.

Aaron

Thank you for the diverse points of view. While a bit younger and more fit we are doing the long trips to west and northwest now. 5 to 10000 miles Then we will transition to Eastern trips closer to our home base.
Many places to see within a couple thousand miles for sure. Alaska for 2nd time will be our last trip there. Northern Eastern Canada is very likely. No desire to see anymore of California after we have done the Sequoias and Redwoods loops. There is the grandchild to consider and missing several months when they are 1 to 3 years old is tough. GOD bless in all yalls travels. If you see a Winnie Vista dollying a white Honda Accord its likely us.

We are not full timers, nor will we ever be. We have kind of decided that if it's more than a 3 day journey to our destination we will probably fly and rent a car once there. We only stay gone for a couple weeks at a time so 3 days out and 3 days back is almost half the trip.

Love all the different replies and viewpoints when this subject comes up.
We fall into the group that tries to keep it under 3 hours actual drive time which translates to around four hours total time with potty and gas stop
Sometimes we're so far out from anything we have to make exceptions for a longer drive.
We are retired and in no real hurry and find the real joy is found in the journey, not a specific destination.
We're 3 weeks into a 6 week adventure. Our drive time to today was under 2 hours and just perfect. Down one mountain and up another, gas, potty and arrived before the hottest part to set up.
Regardless, be safe and have fun!
Peace!

I guess I'm more with the OP on this one. In May we drove about 600 miles from home to Bluff, UT to see Monument Valley and a couple of national monuments in the area. Spent two days there and drove back, roughly 12 hours drive time with stops for food and gas, etc.

Last week we drove about 8 hours each way from home to ND to visit Theodore Roosevelt NP. We drove up on Wednesday in 100º+ temps and the dash A/C quit blowing cold about 100 miles short of our destination, so we drove the rest of the way with the gen and rooftop A/C running. We had planned on two days there but cut it short and drove back on Friday. And the dash A/C was working fine again, no idea what happened to it or why it stopped when it was 103 outside, but it really sucked lol.

We're also planning a trip up to Glacier NP next month, but since we don't want to try to make it in one day we're breaking it up into two 6 hour days there and two back, with a detour through Yellowstone. I'd like to limit distance to around 400-450 miles a day on all our trips, but when the destination is 500-600 miles total it doesn't make sense to me to break it up if we don't need to. We're retired but still have time constraints that make longer trips difficult for now.

We travel from spot to spot . Good roads 4lane preferred and only interstate if necessary. We get on the road by 9 and try to get to planned stop by 3 . Average about 300 hundred miles or so and plan our stops . Mostly COE , state , county RV parks . Works for us . Both of us like having a plan written in sand .

Wondering how yall feel about this "rule". That is 200 miles 2 hour 2 days.
Just curious but I am still trying to figure out this "rule" and what it means. We just go until we feel like it's time to look for a place to stop, usually a couple of hours ahead. We do have some ideas ahead of time and not doing it totally blind. But weather and wind have a lot to do with it.

Not a re by a guidance some may use. Since we plan out long trips we know in advance how far we need to go on a given day. Travelling where few things to visit we travel farther. Once we have a place we can do several satellite trips from we stay 3 or 4 days and visit in the toad. Once we switch to East coast this may/will change. Things in the East tend to be closer together. We also travel in the off seasons to avoid crowds. We will also do some trips without a toad as we have a smaller RV (27 foot Class A) so can use it to visit attractions more easily. We will see flexibility is the way to go. Happy Travels.

When we get to our retirement trips and are not time-limited, by goal is to be on the road at 10, parked by 2, completely set up by 3, cocktails at 4, dinner at 5, head out to explore the local area at 6.
I typically drive no more than 4 hours a day, like you set up and see the local sights… see you on thr Forza row next year!!

That sounds illogical to me. 200 miles a day is approx. 4 hrs, can't be done in 2 hrs. The 2 days is drive one day, stay 2 days?
Our guideline is, 300 miles/day or 6 hrs. driving time, whichever comes first.

I’ll drive from SF to Austin or Denver in 2 days. 10-12 hour drives. It gets me there, and I can stay longer at my destination.

If I’m hitting camp spots on the way, then 5-6 hours is max.
