I'm new to this, So some ignorant questions.

Does my 22ft 1984 Chieftan have rear air suspension bags?

I know it has fronts which are shredded. I have new ones for them.

Are air helper springs manually inflated or is there an onboard compressor somewhere?

I can't specifically answer your question, but I would expect airbags on the rear axle more so than the front. It should be easy to tell just by looking at the axles and the springs next to the axle. We had rear bags on our 93 Warrior that fit on the springs just forward of the axle itself. On ours there were two air valves mounted just inside the tire well and we aired them up with a 12V compressor. There should be air lines leading from the air bags that you can follow to the valve locations.
While an on-board compressor is nice to have, its not essential as the bags stay inflated quite a whild unless they are going bad. You find the sweet spot for the pressure and after that, you just stay with it.

Thanks, I just threw my back out but I get under there and look in a day or two.

Surely someone has a Chieftain this age and knows what is under the rear.

I also need advice on shock absorbers, front and rear.

Thanks in advance.

OK I got under the rear and my 22 does not have rear air springs...but a Massive rear sway bar. Now I need to look at shocks and brakes....and tire ages.
