The remains of the squirrel-chewed wires to my engine computer. The critter apparently needed more copper and vinyl in its diet, because it ingested them all.

Rats, mice, chipmunks, and squirrels all have a common problem. If they don't chew on something to wear the teeth down and keep them sharp, the teeth will grow and eventually kill the rodents!
Industry like telephone companies have spend millions trying to work out a solution and the best they had found when I last checked was not one we would want to use. They had a routine to spray Tanglefoot on all exposed cables as it makes a sorry mess that squirrels don't want to mess with!
I try to keep rat bars at all locations where I might expect them to move. Chipmunks still stored acorns in the air intakes.
