Infotainment on 2014 itasca meridian

Hi we just purchased a 2014 itasca meridian 40u Love it so far but have questions about infotainment center . Actually the secondary screen above , is that just for dvds? Or can backup camera be turned on that screen. I have some manuals but of course not the ones I need. Also I need to update the Rand McNally gps do I get a new sd card for the update? Any help or where I can go look to get info on these Thanks

Google is your friend in this case. I have found everything from Allison transmission codes to my holding tanks capacity. Enjoying our new to us Meridian 36M. Here's a start: https://winnebagoind.com/resources/m...uals2014-1.php

For the SD card update search and load 'RandMcNally dock' software to your computer - then link your SD card to the computer, register it by inputting the serial # and follow the prompts. If you get a prompt that you need a larger SD card the manufacturer will send you one - and alternatively I believe they will still update your card if you send it in.

If you work through the system menus you'll see options for what each screen can / does show. I keep my NAV on the main screen constantly, temporarily interrupted by turn signal and rear cameras as used. I keep the small screen permanently on the rear camera to keep an eye on the toad.

Yes, we do. While driving I use the small screen to keep an eye on our toad. We use the big screen for GPS, or music functions. Then, I will use the big screen for backing in to a space.

Thanks, one last question how do you get the small screen to keep camera on? I turn power on small screen but it comes up a blue screen and reads no video

As best I recall the 'no video' message may be related to not making a menu choice of what to show on that screen. Get into the menus and play - shouldn't hurt anything.

'No video' can also mean a loose connection, bad camera, etc. but I'm doubtful. Let us know if nothing shows on the screen once you play a bit.

I’m wondering the same. Not happy with how the Rand McNally system works so looking for what others have replaced with. Thank you

If you have the Xite system there is no easy answer.

First, those are available with a 6" dash monitor with a built in head unit OR they have a 10" dash monitor and a separate Core Unit (a computer actually) in an upper cabinet.

If you have the 6" kind then you can go to Crutchfield or a local car audio store and have it replaced with several Alpine, Kenwood, etc units. If you have the 10" screen you are pretty much locked into that system.

Riverpark was successful in installing these in Winnebagos, Newmars, Entegras and others. So, if you search www.irv2.com for Xite replacement options you'll find a lot of threads on the subject. There are some that have had good success replacing the Xite systems.

We like our Xite System and are happy with the Rand McNally GPS.

Rand McNally went through bankruptcy and two corporate sales so Riverpark has changed to TomTom (NavNgo) GPS and you can upgrade to that but it costs about $1000 to do so.

Last month the Rand DOCK app that we use to update our software came out with the first update in 2-years. There were a lot of cosmetic changes but not much else. They claim that new maps are going to be coming "sometime."

Dmgoetz23, if you have not ever bothered to download the RAND DOCK application for your computer and kept your Rand McNally system updated that is a possible reason you don't like the system????

Thanks Creativepart. This is basically what I have gathered. I’m currently working on using Dock to update my SD card (fun process) and will see how the update works. I just bought my 2015 and guessing it has never been updated.

That's pretty common. I find the DOCK update pretty easy.

I also use Rand McNally's TripMaker website to plan my trips and then I just transfer the trip info directly to the SD card. It works great.

All GPS's have the same failings. Many prefer the Garmin way of doing things - the Rand system isn't worse, it's just different. Once you get the hang of it it's reliable and easy to use. Many give up without trying to learn how to use it, complain that it's rubbish and want to get rid of it.

Great to hear they have updated the dock app, and “maybe” the maps also in the near future. I’ll check it out.

Al, my wording wasn’t great above… the update was to parts of the GUI of the GPS.

There are some graphic changes and new features - for instance as you drive on the interstate the current mile marker number is shown on the bottom right hand side of the map. And the icon for the RV on the map has changed appearance, too. There are a couple other insignificant changes but I don’t remember exactly what.

Here’s a look:
