Greetings - 1988 Winnebago Chieftain M-27RU

Just got a 1988 27RU we're going to be living in and rebuilding on the go.

Glad to be here.

Hi Haven,
The 27RU's layout is very nice. What sort of rebuilding will be needed?
Welcome to the Forum.

Well, the skylight over the shower gave out completely, so we'll need to replace that section of roof.

There are leaks at both end caps the front has weakened the overhead enough that the front drop bed sags.

Surprisingly with all those leaks the floor is in good shape, but the walls near those will also need fixin'.

Small things like the water heater having a wasp nest in the combustion tube and the jackknife sofa needing rebuilt completely, await at most corners of the RV. And there is a fuel starvation problem when trying to push her past idle so the carb will need rebuilt and the fuel system cleaned.

But it was a gift, and we're needing it to keep from being homeless, so where there is a will there is a way.

Oh and she desperately needs a pressure wash, all the windows resealed, new rubber seal around the front windows, and a new paint job.

But the pressure side of the water system doesn't leak except for a moderate drip from the hot water tank drain plug.

Haven't tested the appliances or lighting yet, still need a new house battery and propane.

Hi Haven,
Many of us have posted in the What did you name your unit? thread. Might I suggest the name Odyssey for your Chieftain? You have a long list ahead of you. May the sun shine on your face, and the wind be at your back.

Hi there! I just joined and haven't posted my introduction yet...just getting ready to when I noticed your post. I also just bought a 1988. Mine is a 22 ft Sunflyer.

Thank you, Eagle5. We are still throwing a few names around...good suggestion!
We also live in WA. We are on the Olympic Peninsula... haven't seen the Sunflyer actually in the sun yet though. LOL!

Sunshine in South Bend? Not right now, to be sure.
Remember, Apollo 13's LEM did work flawlessly. Hopefully, your Aquarius will do likewise.
