For me, I keep my tire pressure At reconmented pressure by the weight chart, run Snythetic oil in my cat and generator. Keep the coach waxed. I just replaced my air cleaner with a AFE air cleaner ,lets more air in. Have not had it on a trip to see if it helps. Drive about 60 MPh.Just above where the over drive comes in. The muffler is nexts. Right now I get 9.5 MPH. I tow a CRV. light weight. When I purchased it in NEW Mexico the deal had Cat to reprogram the engine. It was set to Calif. standards. What ever that is.

The most meaningful difference I can make (and the big payoff) is to slow down. Usually I run 65 on Interstates, now I'm going to drop it back to 60.

We are also cutting our summer travel back by about six or eight weeks - that alone will save mega-bucks worth of diesel.

John has the best idea,SLOW DOWN.I was supprized when I went from 7.5 mpg,to over 10 mpg by going down from 70mph to 55mph in my 8.1 Workhorse Winnei 30B.I just get nervous looking in the rear sideview mirrors for the hot rods coming from behinde me.

I just took a 2500 mi trip from VA out through KY via I64, then I65 down to MS. Returned via I65 and I85. Going out i wanted to increase mpg so i tracked the instant readout. On arriving MS i found that the best milage was 63 mph and with all the stops etc. including WV mountains i averaged 7.9 mpg. On the way home i got in a hurry and ran 65 mph most of time. On returning home i still reg 7.9 mpg.. go figure. Average speed was 54 mph with 10% idle time. Most idle time was waiting for fuel at one truck stop in NC. I have a 36 07 journey and keep full of water and fuel which decreases mpg due to weight. Tommorow I'm headed to Pittsburg via 64 to 17 to 522 to 7?. I plan on a 55 avg mph with minimum stops. I'll let you know if mpg increases.

When I drove about 70 MPH we got about 7.9 mpg ... I have slowed down to the 60 to 62 range ... I have averaged 9.03 mpg over the last 2000 miles ...

I was amazed at the change ...

I had the complete Banks system installed,put on the Steer Safe system, and dropped my speed to around 55----where I don't slow traffic. Went from around 6 to 8.84 on the last fill-up. That was bucking a wind and some good size hills

Ski you must be doing something right, we have never gotten more than 7.8 but for this next trip we did unload everything we won't be needing, (many pounds of extra tools, kitchenware, etc.) in hopes of getting better milage.

I noticed that my mileage improved considerably when I pulled in the slides, parked the levelers, and released the emergency brake. Less noise too. On my next trip, I plan on cutting my hair and leaving the dog at home. After that, I'm at a loss.

We were shocked to hear from the Cummins tech that our lifetime average fuel mileage was over 10 mpg on the engine ECM. This is cumulative, and I think somehow flawed. We used to average 8 when we were driving 70 -75 out West. Less if it was at all windy.

Like most others, we have put our coach on a strict weight loss diet, and have slowed to 55-60 depending on conditions and traffic. We are not hauling the car along unless we really need it. Sometimes we just take out little 12' enclosed trailer (1600#) and a motorcycle and scooter. Not sure what savings there is in that, but we tell ourselves its so much better!

Our Silverleaf shows 10.04 mpg for the last 2 tanks of fuel. This is post diet and we have already been driving slower for the last year or so.

We are also giving serious consideration to making our own biodiesel (during the warmer months) using the new dry-washing method (no wastewater to deal with). Cummins allows B20, and I think we will find in time they may increase that once they get some more widely practiced standards for biodiesel stability and purity. We have used B20 several times with positive results. Be sure to carry extra fuel filters in the beginning as bio tends to clean the fuel system, resulting in clogs at first. We didn't experience any, but I was ready. In the past, the cost and hassle of making your own biodiesel wasn't feasible. That has changed with $4.59 a gallon at the local pumps.

I slowed down and have added about 1 mpg to my mileage. I run between 58-60 now. At today's prices I will take that. I keep wondering what 50 mph would do, but hate seeing those trucks run up my tailpipe. I always stay in the slow lane except to allow merging traffic. It is a lot more relaxed to drive slower and we get to the same place with in a few minutes of what we did at 65-70. Works for me.

The solution to driving 50-55 mph is to stay off the interstates. You'll also see a lot more and it'll be less stressful.

We just went 1800 miles from Bakersfield to Boise and return. I started out using the cruise too much and the mileage was 7.5 on my Winnie 37B with the 8.1. I started using the Scanguage II more and paying attention to the RPM more than the MPH. I tried to go at 62-65 MPH, but began to allow the speed to vary as much as necessary to easily maintain about 2200-2300 RPM and use whatever gear was appropriate for that range. That upped my mileage to 9.1 through hills, rollers, winds, etc. We were not towing, but were running loaded.

I used the cruise when in flat country unless the winds prevented it. As soon as anything caused the down shift from OD, I would kick the cruise off and use my RPM method.

One thing I noticed was that the mileage using OD, even up hills, was better than using the next gear, so, at times, I would build a gradual head of steam when I saw a hill coming, and try to make it to the top without a down shift. I think that helped as well.

WHAT Am I DOING TO GET BETTER MILAGE? At over $4.40 a gallon for deisel whats the point it seems hopeless. Whats the frickin government doing about the problem seems to be more appropriate. I am glad I am not in the trucking business.

You'll be getting a $600 check in the mail from the government. This will get you 600 gallons of fuel at last years pricing. If you're married maybe the wife will contribute with her $600.
